  • So this preacher nut wants to

burn the Koran on 9/11. I think I heard he has 30 followers.

The threatened act by this nut, yes I think he is nuts, has caused thousands upon thousands of Muslims to take to the streets chanting death to America. Our head General said it can cost American lives.

Personally, I think we should find someway to stop this guy from exercising his first amendment rights. It does kind of bug me though that a vast number of people in this world can scream and holler about some nut defaming their religion and yet condone the killing of thousands in the US over religion.

It is an interesting time where so few, terrorists represent a minority of Muslims and this preacher certainly is a minority, can cause such havoc.

The only thing that should be used is persuasion. Any attempt to use the law to stop him violates his 1st Amendment rights. Persuasion could involve a review of his organization's finances. But, a court order to stop him should be the first thing burned.

For the record, he's an idiot, and he should not do this. But, if they stop him, I'm going to burn a Koran.

It's a publicity stunt and it seems to be working as planned. I wish people would just ignore him.

like building a mosque potentially using state dollars close to ground zero, it is an insensitive calculation, but one that is, and should be, protected. the guy sounds like an attention whore. cut that off, and he'll go away.

If you need a Koran to burn, let me know. No, I'm not really anti-anything. But I have one that my old home teacher gave me about 5 years ago and it has done nothing but collect dust in that time.

It is ironic in a way. This guy is an idiot because he is religious and thinks a symbolic burning of the Koran is appropriate. The media I have watched have pretty well labeled him a religious nut.

On the other hand, they are reporting the outrage by the Muslims who are in the streets yelling "death to America" and burning our flag as "outraged Muslims".

I think and I don't blame them, most media outlets and others are pretty fearful of being critical of Muslims.

What the preacher should do is burn a Bible, a Book of Mormon and a Koran and see who kills him or someone else because of him first.

Then someone could probably write a dissertation on it and get a degree or something.

The two bolded statements seem incongruous.

I guess I don't equate those who are in the streets chanting "death to America" as terrorists. Some of them might be or might become, but just doing that doesn't put them in the terrorist grouping for me.

In addition, with the large number of Muslims, I suspect those chanting are still a minority. However, a larger minority than the preacher and his pee wee flock are representing America.

I like the idea of a counter event. Let's read the Qur'an during the time this nutjob is trying to burn it.

I especially like the name of the guy's church - Dove World Outreach Center.

Nothing says "I want to reach out to the world in peace" quite like burning another religions book of scripture.

Jones' decision to call off the Quran burning was made after a firestorm of criticism from leaders around the world. The pope and several other Christian leaders were among those urging him to reconsider his plans, which generated a wave of anger among Muslims. In Afghanistan, hundreds of Afghans burned an American flag and chanted "Death to the Christians" to protest the planned Quran burning.
I found this paragraph rather hypocritical on the part of Muslims. While I think this pastor has a right to burn a Quran, I don't think he should do it for the same reason as most folks - because it demonstrates intolerance to others' religious ideas and beliefs.

I would love to hear Imam Rauf condemn those in Pakistan who were chanting "death to Christians".
