  • Redshirt candidates:

BYU coaches also announced the following players will be redshirt candidates for the 2010 season:
    Offense:
    Jordan Black, OL
    Matt Jensen, OL
    Cole Jones, OL
    Quinn Lawlor, OL
    Manu Mulitalo, OL
    Blair Tushaus, OL
    Algernon Brown, RB
    A.J. Moore, RB
    Drew Phillips, RB
    DJ Doman, WR
    Bryan Sampson, TE

    Defense
    Jordan Atkinson, LB
    Cole Herrmann, LB
    Collin Keoshian, LB
    Alani Fua, LB
    Sae Tautu, LB
    Peter Welsh, LB
    Jordan Johnson, DB
    Kori Gaines, DB
    DeQuan Everett, DB
    Travis Tuiloma, DL
    Josh Marquardt, DL

I am surprised about Travis Tuiloma. He is obviously not yet ready to play and I think the coaches must like the depth at DE enough to think that they can plan to use Ethyn M as the back up at NT. I also am surprised that Teyo Fabulije is not on this list, given the size he showed up at I was convinced he would get to sit out the fall and visit with Sister Jenny Craig.

I am also surprised about Jordan Johnson as well as Kori Gaines. I figured that with Dequan Everitt redshirting that JJ would not, I thought that Johnson looked like a really sure tackler from his highlights so I figured he would see some special teams duties at a minimum. Correct me if I am wrong but this leaves BYU with basically 4 CBs, admittedly more than BYU normally has but Buckner is already injured.

It would not surprise me if Mahina and Holt both redshirt - especially if Wilson and Muehlman are the two TEs BYU goes with. On the other hand IMO the future at TE is Wilson as a big receiver/small tight end option similar more to Harline than Pitta and Holt as the traditional type of TE. If they both play this year, I doubt we see many two TE formations, but it could be a mainstay the next 3 years - especially after McKay Jacobsen graduates.

What is the word on the youngest Marquardt? His mother was pretty anti-Bronco when Bronco was named the HC and clearly Michael did not like the 3 man front from either the 3-3-5 or the 3-4 so he went to ASU, but did Mendenhall's winning games prove that perhaps he ain't a moron and they came back around much like Jay? Is this Marquardt any good? If he is a walk-on and is being redshirted it would indicate to me that there is hope for him. Besides that all his siblings could play, another strong indicator IMO.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

With Lee Agguire already redshirting, that leaves 4 corners: Bradley,Logan, Eason and Buckner. It is a curious move I gree.
Tayo didn't get glowing reports out of camp, did he?

Red shirts are easy to pull, aren't they? All you have to do is put them in a game. Correct?

Why doesn't Bronco call them blueshirt candidates like he renames the red zone?

Thomas Bryson was also suspended for the Washington game.

True, but since you can only travel with 65 for road games, that's really only applicable when you're playing at home -- when you might not need it as badly vs. a road game.
