  • Getting emotional...

Anyone else ever get emotional at a game?

You can have my man card but here you go....

The game 3 years ago....BYU lost in overtime. That wasn't when I cried.

I took my mother to her first BYU game. My younger brother and his son were with us also.

I was sitting there enjoying pre-game with them, and we were having an absolute fantastic time.

The BYU players came running out on the field and I got the feeling I normally get before I shed a tear. They started the haka and I had tears running down my cheeks.

My brother thought I was crazy.

    I have pondered it since...

It was "zenith" for me. Great time with family, football team I love, it was almost the most perfect moment I ever had. I wept in joy.

Just thought I would ask...anyone else?

I had a lump in my throat sitting in the dugout of my last game with Marist. Not so much because we had lost the game and ended the season, but because it hit me that that would be the last time I would play real baseball. It's tough to know you'll be hanging it up.

I also cried when I struck out in a game when I was 8 years old.

MY freshman season of Basketball in high School we went like 0-18. I think I teared up a little after the last game. What a season! Such sweet memories. I remember one game Jamal Willis (later played for BYU's football team) scored like more points against us than we did as a team (of course my defense in the 2-3 zone was stellar).

        Where did you grow up?

I remember Jamal Willis. He was a very solid RB and a better person.

I went to the first Jazz game of the '01 season. They did a big pre-game thing because of 9-11. The MoTab came and they filled the entire court, and sang the National Anthem. I usually get a bit choked up during the Anthem anyway, but I lost it big time. I was sobbing. A bit embarrassed, I looked around only to see that everyone else was crying, too. That was when I really understood how devastated people were by the attacks.

Vegas ... I never knew Willis just played against him. He played for Bonanza high School in Vegas if memory serves me correctly.

Vegas - home of Valley High School where I went 2-4 against a kid named Greg Maddux in a tournament. I as a senior and he was a soph. We kicked their hineys and won their tournament and my high school was never again invited to play there.

That't a pretty nice moment: taking down Maddux's team. Nice. If I did something like that I would tell me kids that story nearly every day.

I went to Basic High School (which is, of course, the best name for a High School ever). Valley High School back when I was in High School would have covered the area where Arch lives (you know, rich kids).

My oldest daughter played her last club soccer game this Sunday. The girls are young enough to play one more season in this division but they coach is hanging it up.

She played HS soccer her first 2 years. This year she didn't. Coach lied to her flat out last year and she didn't want to deal with it. She says that she may play her Sr. year.

So as I sat there in my chair (skipped church, she normally doesn't play on Sundays but this was a special occasion agreed to by all) as the 2nd half started I was choking back my emotions pretty good. My daughter made a series of plays and fed a nice ball across the field that was put in for a goal. We lost 2-1 though.

As she walked off of the field she and I were in full melt down mode. I coached her for 10 of her 11 soccer years. We embraced and cried for about 5 minutes. I have coached 7 of the 16 girls on her team at various times over the last 7 years. They came for hugs and were crying also.

I still am not dealing well with it and it is 4 days later.

Basic High. Game over, you win.

I think they call it Visual Basic HS now.

Stocktons very last game in a Jazz uniform.

Speculation had been running rampant that this was it for him.

It was in Arco Arena against the Sacramento Kings. with about a minute left and the Kings firmly in control and the series about to be over, Sloan substituted him out of the game and Arco Arena roared to life in a long standing ovation as Stockton began walking off the court.

Even as he sat down the Arena was still roaring in appreciation for him for another couple of minutes. Stockton stood up akin to a baseball player coming out of a dugout for a curtain call and waved his hand in acknowledgement to the crowd.

I'll admit I got teary eyed seeing that.

I cried when Magic announced he had AIDS. I was eating lunch in the cafeteria when our beloved custodian Frank (who looking back I am sure was a gang member and sleeping with half of the cholas at my school) turned on the TV and we all watched stunned as Magic announced his retirement.

What really chokes me up is seeing someone struggle yet perservere in sports.

A week ago they had a 1 1/2 hour show on NBC on the Paralympics. I just about cried during every story.

                              This one really got me.
