  • HRS! Catalonia Bans Bullfighting

    http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/europe...ing/index.html

This has to be a response to the recent power grab by Madrid over Catalunyan culture.

Does this put a damper on the World Cup win?

On a more serious note, I hope the rest of Spain follows suit. Bullfighting is barbaric.

I would like to see a bullfight before I die. Looks like I'd better make plans soon.

Are there still latin american countries that hold bullfights? I'll have to get me a skin full of Jerez and spend the week there.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I still regret I didn't catch one while in Seville a long time ago.

I hope you mean a skin full of jerez. Because, a skin full of Jerez sounds like you're not really into Sherry all that much.

You KNOW I'm into Sherry! You want to go fishing? I need to get away for a few days.

Perhaps in October something could be arranged.

I agree with you on this. I served in the Barcelona mission, so I never got in to bullfighting. I went to one when I was serving down in Valencia (and it totally was disgusting), but even there bullfighting wasn't that popular.

Most definitely. Bullfighting has been overwhelmingly unpopular in Catalunya for a long time now. Most people would say that it's because it's cruel to the bulls and because it's "Spanish." This isn't the work of a few isolated animal-rights or pro-independence activists, either. 20 years ago one of the two bull rings in Barcelona closed (and it's now been redeveloped into a shopping mall), and the other one (Glories) only hosts one event a year. It's very unpopular there.

I rather enjoyed the bullfight I went to, despite the blazing hot granite benches in the arena. I found it to be beautiful.
There's no such thing as luck, only drunken invincibility. Make it happen.

Tila Tequila and Juggalos, America’s saddest punchline since the South.

                    Yesterday was Thursday, Thursday
                    Today is Friday, Friday (Partyin’)

                    Tomorrow is Saturday
                    And Sunday comes afterwards

The only time I would ever think about seeing a bullfight is if it was changed so the matador (or wussador is more appropriate because of when he enters the ring) is in the ring when the bull is at full strength and really pissed off. If the guy can kill the bull in that situation, then I'd be more inclined to holler olé. (wuap, did I use the correct accent?) That's why bull riding is the best event at the rodeo - there's a greater chance that the rider is going to get killed than at a bullfight.

Other than that, I want nothing to do with it.
