  • What if there is a tie?

It's conceiveable at the end of the season there could be a 2 or 3 way tie for the MWC Championship.

My question is this then: How do they determine who would be the #1, #2 and #3 seeds for the MWC Tourney if that were to happen?

    Thanks.

Will it matter? Tough to see UNLV losing the tourney as long at they have a decent team.

I am guessing they go off of head to head first, which wont matter. Knowing the MWC they will do something lame and flip a coin.

Because stupid as this sounds I'd rather have BYU at the #2 or #3 seed because if things continue as is, UNLV will be the #4 or #5 seed and that way BYU can potentially avoid them til the Championship Game.

          My understanding

They look at head to head and then go down the ranking of teams and use the best record against the next highest team.

For example, if BYU and Utah end up tied and SDSU is third, BYU would be first if they swept SDSU. If they both split against SDSU but UNLV is fourth and one split with UNLV but the other got swept by UNLV, it is the one with a UNLV win that is first.

This proves he's the real K-Dog. Goes right to this thread. He's the only BYU fan I know who favors basketball. A man after my own heart.

              Good to see you too!

I'm having a great hoops season this year. Who can't love MWC hoops in a year like this? Five teams who can actually play.

I think Ute fans need to root against a Lobo breakthrough in the MC tonight. So once again I find myself cheering for BYU.

Alford scares me. Is he a poor man's Lute Olsen?

Alford can coach. I expect he will make UNM a regular player in the MWC championship fight. Their current team was young and should have sucked but he has them playing well.

They will be a player for a year or two until he bolts to another high profile program.

Alford is kind of an odd case, he left a Big 10 job at Iowa for UNM when it seemed that the Indiana job was his if he wanted it. Makes me think that Alford is not a big program jumper.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

If everything goes according to how it should go, then SDSU would get the nodd with a sweep of UNLV and everyone else splitting head to head. In that scenario, BYU and Utah would both want to be in the 2-3 spot in the tourney, leaving UNLV to play UNM in a 4/5 game and SDSU in the next round...two teams that would seemingly play them better in Vegas than Utah or BYU has recently.

He left Iowa for UNM because he'd fallen out of the favor there and saw the writing on the wall.

Right, but didn't Indiana want him? I remember his name coming up for that job after Knight left, but I can't remember if he was mentioned after Davis or Sampson.

Yep, which is exactly why the tournament needs to get the hell out of Vegas.
