Fond memories of that bowl... My dad got a large Winnebago and a dozen of us drove down from the Bay Area, leaving early the morning of the game. filsdepac decided to stay home, but since he was only seven months old I understood. VHS tapes were just coming into full bloom, and my dad hooked up a VCR the size of refrigerator so we could watch manly movies on the way down (Tora! Tora! Tora! was one of the offerings). We arrived a couple of hours before game time, had a nice tailgate party, and then witnessed an exciting game as BYU let WSU back in it in the second half, but McMahon led BYU to a nice win (sorry for the spoiler). We drove back late that night, arriving home at dawn. I recall with fondness driving an apartment building on wheels at 80 mph while the rest of our entourage slumbered in the various bunks and beds in the back.

"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I was going to mention that I watched the first quarter of this game when it was on the other night. I saw the future Utah head coach make some nice hits (dude was a heckuva LB); saw Austin Collie's dad catch a pass and fumble; and saw a friend of mine from high school standing on the BYU sidelines dressed as if he thought he might get a chance to play, but never would because, despite the fact that he was the starting TE on the MNC team, he wasn't good enough to play ahead of Gordon Hudson.

I had the same reaction a few years ago when PAC noted that filsdepac is son fils.

Previously I kept wondering, "What's a FILLS DEEPACK?"
          Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

utah v. byu 2008 is on the mtn this afternoon.... this is a game that i have very fond memories of. driving to the game with my dad, bcs bowl hopes filling our heads. after a close game through nearly 3 quarters, the utes pulled it out and then went on to... well, you all know what happened after this game.

i wish they could replay bcs bowls on the mtn, or that fox would replay them on one of its many cable sports stations. good thing i have my sugar bowl dvd.
