  • Spudman Triathalon

A buddy of mine registered me for the spudman. I guess I can just float downstream in this thing? i'm going to do the back stroke all the way down.

If you've ever wanted to do a tri and you're not a strong swimmer I hear this is the one to try. If you just float it you need to wear some of those little arm floaties to complete the look.

Didn't someone drown in the Spudman last year?

I used to have some snoopy floaties as a kid. I'm sure my mom has saved them somewhere.

Is this your first? You serious about the backstroke? It's legal, but easy to careen into people.

It will be my first tri. The buddy who signed me up for it did it last year as his first tri and wants me to compete with him this year. We are just in the lottery so not sure yet if I'll get in.

I have a wide array of swim technique. I have no weakness. Seriously though, I won't be doing the backstroke. I may however just float down the river.

"world's fastest course." sounds sweet. I bet you'll have a great time.

I have done 2 Spudmans. The first year I had just finished training for and running a marathon and I had never done any real swimming before. I don't remember my times now but I swam the 1500 in a pool about 3 weeks before the race and my time in the race was less than half my time in the pool. The current is very strong.

The next year we had just moved and I couldn't find my wet suit, so I decided to go without one. Bad choice as I was freezing and actually had to swim more/float less, but I still finished in a time faster than I had in the pool.

I am going to sign up for the lottery this year, and motivate myself not to be such a fat ass come July. Maybe we could make some CUF gang signs when we see each other on the course?
