  • Nurses are now doctors.........

    http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/...-doctors_N.htm

I guess if Chris Hill and Jack Ramsey call themselves doctors, I guess nurses can as well. In fact it makes even more sense.

    Doctor shortage? Not in Texas:

The number of medical licenses granted in Texas has climbed 18% since 2003. And in the past fiscal year, the state granted 30 percent more licenses than it had in the previous year. The increase in doctors has been twice the rate of the overall population increase, and there’s a backlog of nearly 2,500 applications, according to the NYT. Malpractice premiums have fallen more than 20 percent.

Even anonymous Internet posters are doing it these days.

I guess you're of the belief that only a medical doctor is allowed to be a doctor? Do you also believe that only a guy who drives a train should be called an engineer?

These aren't nurses, these are nurse practitioners. The fact that you don't know the difference further undermines your already extremely tenuous claim to be a med student.

FTR, I don't mind NP's practicing without the not-so-watchful eye of a doctor.

I don't mind NPs, so long as they operate within a supervised scope of practice. However, I do question the way their advocating bodies inflate their utility/preparedness.

I was going to post my usual Hallelujah response, but this is better than anything I could come up with. Well done!

They are not nurses? OK. Actually I think I know the difference ... mother is a nurse, sister is a nurse, friend is a nurse practitioner, friend is a physician assistant, uncle is a surgeon. I think I have it down as to who does what to whom. But I like your anality (cool word if it isn't already).

I love you docs but I'd like to post about a particular NP.

I work in a factory that is part old school and part high-tech. We employ a full time NP who runs wellness programs, emergency response, and keeps tabs on general employee help. She has a clinic of sort on site and for regular problems is as good as any GP I've ever had.

Like I said, i have a friend who is a NP and would go to her for certain things. I was merely stating that they now want to be called doctors and since Dr. Chris Hill and Dr. Jack Ramsey are considered doctors, so should nurses.

Anyone who read anything else into my post is in need of a proctologist and a bottle of Fleet to get their cranium removed.

I wasn't disagreeing with you. With that said my cranium is probably far up my buttocks.

He has widely been known as a doctor.

so you would go to him for what ailment? 99% of the people..........ok 100% of the population, think that when you mention 'doctor' they think of a physician........not a doctorate of XXXXXX.

Ok, I think 99%. The 1% that are PhD think they are doctors.........and who cares.
