  • Has anyone asked the Pres. or AD of UTah

whether or not there was any kind of agreement between the two schools, whether written or verbal, that they were a 'package' deal with respect to football?

I would have thought that would be the most basic of questions to be asked by the local media about 1 1/2 weeks ago when Utah accepted the invite to the PAC-10.

Not that it matters but it would either confirm or deny what many on the BYU side believe.

This whole notion that Utah had a handshake agreement with BYU or had any obligation to stay in the MWC with BYU is complete horse shit, as should be demonstrably true to anyone with above a room temperature IQ.

Is that what you were looking for?

I spoke with my friend on the U of U Board of Trustees. He made it very clear that there was an agreement between BYU and Utah. The agreement was that the two schools would continue to stay together as rivals and keep the rivalry alive because it was so important to both programs. Utah did this and held up their end of the deal by getting a guarantee from the Pac-10 that they would have the USC deal wrt Notre Dame. Essentially USC gets to put ND on their schedule before anything else and the Pac-10 works around it. Utah has the same deal relative to BYU. That concession from the Pac-10 was what Utah felt was needed to satisfy their gentleman's agreement with BYU. Those I know at BYU have said it was sufficient as well.

LOL. Yet in your previous post you mentioned that anyone with an IQ above room temperature would know that there was no agreement.

My previous post was written so that a person with above a room temperature IQ could comprehend it. YOU FAILED!

I agree with SU's first post in the thread. The notion is complete horseshit. Even more pathetic that BYU/Holmoe actually believed it.

How can you believe his first post if SU doesn't even believe it.

Because it fits in well with Jay's own silly prejudices.

He recanted because he realized the second position made Utah look magnanimous. The correct position is that IF there was a secret agreement (I think there probably was), both parties knew it wouldn't stick and they would stab the other in the back at the first opportunity. I don't believe someone could be so gullible as to believe it was a real deal, but Holmoe's talking in the papers like he is. Embarrassing.

                          Holmoe:
BYU has certain allegiances, and BYU has lived up to them

If he's referring to Utah, then how does that help BYU moving forward?

I would lean towards him referring to some other allegiances.
