Listened to Sean Hannity today for a bit. According to him, the Blago trial is resulting in earth-shattering revelations regarding Obama corruption.

According the Hannity, anything that can possibly be interpeted negatively is proof positive of Obama corruption or at least incompatence

I may be small, but I'm slow.

Yes, according to Hannity, waking up in the morning is proof positive that Obama is the Great Satan.

I am not following it that closely, but am a bit. What do you see as the damaging accusations?

Possible closed door deals being done for a Senate seat.. They never came to fruition, but the fact Rahm and Jarrett are now being named could cause some concern.. Then there is the fact Obama's staff seemed to have tried to pay other officials with a job to stay out of primary race.. Sounds very alarming to me..

Nothing may take place in DC, but I could see this further damaging Obama in the public eye.. Chicago-style politics can sway many people to turn against him...

I think Blago looks even more nutso than he did before the trial, so I'm guessing it does nothing more than reinforce existing opinions of Obama, Rahm, et al. I.e., it will do nothing to damage Obama in the general public eye but just reinforces the opinion of those that are just looking for one more reason to complain about him.

The drudgereport crowd has become addicted to getting wound up and angry over anything Obama does. The political landscape of our country isn't going to shift over this.

Agreed. Folks on either side will always find a reason to get upset about the other side and nothing will convince either side to change their opinion.

More information that states Obama was involved in the discussion of who would fill his seat..

Top union leader Thomas Balanoff said he was at dinner the night before the November Presidential election when he got a call that was blocked.
                        So he didn't take it.

Later he listened to his messages: "I walked outside, listened to it and it was from President Obama," Balanoff said.

"Tom, this is Barack, give me a call," the soon-to-be President-Elect said on the message.

After Balanoff sent word through an Obama aide to call him back, Obama returned his call later that night.

"Tom, i want to talk to you with regard to the Senate seat," Obama told him.
Balanoff said Obama said he had two criteria: someone who was good for the citizens of Illinois and could be elected in 2010.
Obama said he wasn't publicly coming out in support of anyone but he believed Valerie Jarrett would fit the bill.
"I would much prefer she (remain in the White House) but she does want to be Senator and she does meet those two criteria," Balanoff said Obama told him. "I said: 'thank you, I'm going to reach out to Gov. Blagojevich."

Cliff Notes version? Does he ever say anything about buying the seat? Otherwise, I'm not surprised he had an opinion on who would replace him. If there's something out there about Obama's involvement in buying off Blago, please pass it along.

What's the big deal here? So Obama suggested Jarret? Who cares? It seems like people were both reaching out to Obama and Obama was reaching out to them. Is it a big deal if Obama offered input. Unless Obama was throwing money Blagobitksdfns way, I don't understand why this is a big deal.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

So the scandal is that Obama wanted someone who was "good for the state of Illinois"?

There are basically four ways that Obama could have dealt with his open seat:

                              A) Stay out of it completely
                              B) Give advice and his preference, with no promises made
                              C) Try for a political Quid Pro Quo. Imply that if Blago makes the right choice, political favors (pork, ambassadorship, etc.) will come his way
                              D) Try to pay off Blago

I wouldn't expect him to follow course A, though I wouldn't mind. I wouldn't be thrilled with C, though my impression is it is very common. D appears to be what Blago was turning over every stone to get, with no success. I haven't seen anything that shows Obama followed anything but course B, which, in absense of additional information, seems to make him look better, rather than worse.
