Suppose your wife was backing out of the garage and forgot to lift the garage door. Let's just say it is an insulated steel door, and that the bottom two panels of the door are bent. For this hypothetical scenario, we'll say that the door still works, but because the bottom panel is bent it doesn't seal on the bottom, which is kind of important when it's 30 below zero outside and your garage is heated.

Question: can you buy replacement panels for a garage door, or do you have to buy an entire new door? If this wasn't a hypothetical situation, it would appear to be an expensive mistake.

Not that it ever would. I can appreciate a man that plans for the future.

If something like this were to happen...one has to be extremely careful and watch lots of Tortion (Tension) Spring videos on youtube. Because it is dangerous and kills people.

If we had a situation similar to this...not hitting the door, but having it crack under its own weight...we would have a professional replace it.

You shouldn't have to worry about that if you are just replacing the panels.

Look at your garage door...cables that attach to the bottom panel are attached to the tortion spring. Can't remove lowest panel without playing with the spring.
