  • Gen McChrystal in hot water again..

I am wondering if they are any projections on how quickly he will be fired today?? Or if at all..

I would be surprised if he makes it through the week and I think Obama has every reason to fire this guy..

I agree, he has every reason to fire him, but I don't think he will. His relationship with the military is shakey and I don't think he will for that reason. However I could be, and often am, wrong on these kind of things.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

Truthfully, I think this is an easy one for him. McChrystal does not have the backing of the Military. In fact many soldiers underneath him hate him (Per this article). So I think he could actually garner some support from the military in axing this guy..

Because Obama is all about Obama and nothing else, I don't think McChrystal will be fired. Obama needs McChrystal in order to garner sympathy from the anti-military types in this country and make him look like he has a smidgen of competence.

I wandered up to the break room to get a diet MT Dew and CNN is on the TV reporting that McCrystal has offered to resign. That is probably the best solution for everyone involved. One thing for certain McCrystal blown any chance he had of becoming CofS of the Army

What I don't understand is why McCrystal mouthed off, to Rolling Stone no less. He had to have an ulterior motive. He was hand picked by Obama to run Afganistan for petes sake. You don't get 4 stars with being a very good politician and being very smart. He had to know exactly what he was doing and what was going to happen.

I haven't read the article, but some pundits on TV who have say it isn't all that bad. He doesn't attack Obama's policies and only one quote about Holbrook is attributed to McCrystal. Still he let his staff go off and that is very problematic. I too think it is odd the General allowed this to happen. I would think he is too smart for this, but maybe he is a Patton type.

Two retired military analysts were on. One was adamant McCrystal has to be fired. The other said the President has the right to do so because of this, but hopes he doesn't. They both agreed the negative things said about Holbrook were accurate.

I read the article and this is a bit overblown. A very candid behind the scenes look at McChrystal and his team. Given policymakers pulling back and forth on how to proceed in Afghanistan, the General's team shows some frustration. Their big mistake is the blue-collar approach to expressing that frustration. Perhaps if they were more polite in their expressions, then this wouldn't be such a big deal.

In fact, most of the seemingly offensive comments came from staff, not McChrystal himself. They have a particular dislike for politicians, "from John Kerry to John McCain." Interestingly, only Hillary Clinton receives good reviews from the staff.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I think the President made a good move today. The article put him in a rough situation. He had to avoid looking petty and thin-skinned, but he also has to maintain order. Next to Schwarzkopf, General Petraeus is one of the most popular military leaders I've seen in my lifetime and the appointment really helped deflect the McChrystal departure.

I agree Patraeus is a good appointment. The main problem I see is that is now wearing two hats. From what I understand he didn't give up CentCom to take on Afganistan. I know he is a very good organizer and leader, but is that too much for one man?

I can't wait to hear what McCrystal will say when he gets on the lecture circuit after he retires. I think it will be soon. They really have no where to put him.
