  • Bat problem

My daughter went up into the attic to look for something, and then got totally freaked out by the sound of creatures, a mouse she thought. Today I was up there putting some things away and I heard all manner of noises in the exterior wall, squeaking, scratching, etc. There is a layer of insulation board on top of the brick and I could clearly hear and feel a party going on inside of it. I started banging on the insulation, they started to move around, and one of them came out and started flying around. The cat, who had snuck into the attic was in heaven.

I can see a small gap under the eaves (about 1/2") where they are likely getting through. As near as I can tell from googling, the best way to get rid of them is to seal up the hole at night while they are out hunting.
Sadly, it's about 25' up, and I'm scared of ladders (fell off one as a lad).

Anyone have any other remedies? Anything I can inject into the gap in the wall to make them leave? Anything that doesn't involve climbing up on a ladder?

    peace.
    I intend to live forever.
    So far, so good.

There are numerous products that you can use to fill in the 1/2" gap (any expandable foam such as Great Stuff) but all of them would require climbing a ladder (as far as I can imagine from your description). If you are dead set against a ladder, maybe you can rent a boom truck or a man-lift. It is an expensive alternative, but an alternative non-the-less.

seems like i'll be scaling the ladder sometime.
We went out after dusk and counted 43 bats come out of the opening. Some of them looked to have a 7-8" wingspan. We went in because our necks got tired looking up for so long.

              aye aye aye.

Dang. I didn't think about that.

How 'bout you shoot them point blank with a .45 as they crawl out of the opening? You said you're going up the ladder anyway. Might as well make it fun.

                    Other solution:
