This morning I was thinking about how small the population in Utah is and how, despite that, there are two Universities that are among the most attractive for conference expansion. I believe the rivalry is the cause of that attractiveness. Think of this, 40 years ago neither BYU nor the U was on the college football radar. Their college football presence was no better and no worse than the other teams in their conference. Now, those same teams they used to play are still completely off the college football radar but BYU and Utah are on everyone's radar. Fan support, stadium size, donor dollars etc. have all been generated by the virulence of the rivalry. The whole thing is very interesting to me. So, Cougars, love the Utes. They helped you get rid of Gary Crowton and have provided for the last two decades a team which continually brought you back to earth as you got full of yourselves for beating no one. Utes, love the Cougars. Their rise to prominence forced you to act and start caring about college football. They also supplied you with coaches to usher you into the current era.
