In all seriousness, wouldn't finding that much lithium increase the supply so much as to significantly devalue their estimates of the value of the lithium reserves? The trick about being that independently wealthy (eg. Saudi Arabia) is that there is less financial and political pressure you can put on them to act in a way that is in your best interests. If this pans out, the US has a big challenge to manage this development in a way that the Afghan remains cooperative with the US efforts in the region.

Exactly. They also have to make sure the Taliban doesn't get control of the government again. That would certainly be bad news for the West if they regain power.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostIn all seriousness, wouldn't finding that much lithium increase the supply so much as to significantly devalue their estimates of the value of the lithium reserves? Interesting especially when considering the moral and ethical dilemma of the green movement when they buy electric cars that are powered by electricity stored on lithium based batteries when that lithium is exported from a country such as Afghanistan.Originally posted by CJF View Post"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. Anyone who is awake to the reality of modern life is dealing with identical ethical dilemmas all of the time. The gas you buy profits Hugo Chavez and Saudi dictators. The shoes you wear were produced in a sweat shop where the workers are paid a couple of dollars each day. The computer you are using right now will eventually leach chemicals and heavy metals into the water supply of some distant village where electronics are 'recycled.' Everything you touch is compromised in one way or another.Originally posted by Eddie Jones View PostInteresting especially when considering the moral and ethical dilemma of the green movement when they buy electric cars that are powered by electricity stored on lithium based batteries when that lithium is exported from a country such as Afghanistan.
