He is and army and air force veteran
He was involuntarily discharged from the army.
He raised no campaign funds.
He doesn't have a web site.
He doesnt have a campaign staff or slogan.
When asked, he couldn't cite a single campaign appearance or rally he'd been to.
Facing a felony obscenity charge.
Lives with his father.
Somehow raised the $10K filing fee for US Senate.
Won the democratic primary in South Carolina for US Senate Seat.

I read an article about that. It had a few explanations for his entering the race--Republicans put him it to it and paid, he scrounged enough to pay it himself, but couldn't really afford to campaign, etc. Whatever the reason, that doesn't explain how he won. I wonder if anyone will ever really figure it out. I understand the strong anti-incumbent feelings out there, but I wouldn't ever vote for some guy I never heard of. It's definitely a weird situation.
