  • Political Compass

After receiving multiple anti-Obama emails the last couple of days from family members that are convinced Obama is the Antichrist and we should let alligators eat mexicans entering the country illegally (not joking), I started wondering why I don't hate Obama like I hate Bush. I decided to take the political quiz that we did here a while back to see where I stand in relation to Obama. It turns out that I'm not as far right as I thought on economic issues and I'm pretty Libertarian on social issues. It just so happens that Obama is slightly right of center (a far cry from the socialist label he gets) on economic issues and slightly authoritarian. He is much more Libertarian on social issues than the people I don't like. Namely Bush, McCain, Palin, Gingrich, and Romney. In fact, Romney and Palin are very authoritarian, closer to Hitler than Obama on the social scale. This has to be the reason they rub me so wrong, but Obama doesn't. Social freedom must mean more to me than economic freedom. One interesting fact is that all of the candidates were authoritarian, including Ron Paul, the so-called Libertarian. He was, however, very far right on the economic scale.

If anyone is interested in taking the quiz again, here is a link:
    http://www.politicalcompass.org/test

My scores were 2.25 on the Economic and -5.69 on the Social.

I don't have much belief in the accuracy of this questionairre. I know I am to the right on economic issues, but only show a 1.38. -.15 on social issues.

Obama showing as being slightly right of center shows he is faking someone out.

      You're a fellow Capitalist Libertarian!

Obama's scores were based on the way he voted in congress. It just goes to prove how far right we are as a country. Even the so-called liberals are right of center. It will be interesting to see where Obama stands when they update it for the next presidential election. They will have a lot more data.

        Here's an alternative test:
        http://politicalquiz.net/

This one has four categories. It says I am a: Social Progressive, Capitalist Purist, Libertarian, Pacifist. Overall a Hardcore Libertarian.

This test describes me more how I would. Social conservative, Capital Purist, libertarian/authoritarian I am moderate and Pacifist/militarist I am moderate. Says I am hardcore republican.

It's obvious that Obama lied about his answers when he took that quiz.

The result is based on how Obama voted.

How does that figure. He had one of the highest ratings for liberal votes. Something doesn't compute.

Either this study or whatever it is, cherry picked the votes or how they interpreted them or whoever gives us the rating on Senators as to whether they are voting liberal or conservative is all messed up.

If Obama is center right, who on earth is liberal or even in the middle?

This goes back to what BlueHair mentioned earlier in the thread: America has moved so far right, a perceived "socialist" is center-right.

And I do think it's more than reasonable to assume one or both of the studies you referenced are flawed in regards to how they evaluate votes. Or perhaps the starting point on where they are evaluated is vastly different.
