In a previous thread we discussed the $1 billion Q1 2010 charge taken by AT&T related to Obamacare. At some point in that thread I stated that this charge will be taken by many older companies that have existing prescription drug plans (mainly utilities, manufacturers and heavily unionized companies). The interesting thing about utilities is that they are very transparent in the costs that are passed on to consumers. In fact, if they wish to pass on a cost, they usually have to file for approval from their regulator, which for Utah is the Utah Public Service Commission.

I had some time at work today (and I work on this type of stuff anyway so I've been following it) and I ran into this:

Looks like Utahns are about to feel the effects of Obamacare to the tune of about $4.7 million. That not a whole lot but it still results in higher electricity rates for Utah residents. It also doesn't include the higher taxes to be paid on the Medicare Part D program from today going forward (it only includes a recoupment of taxes from prior years). FTR, RMP is filing these applications in it's other jurisdictions as well.
I haven't seen whether or not Questar is filing the same order, but I anticipate that they would.
