  • c-coli in Saratoga Springs Water Supply

Ok, so, this past weekend, I was "violently" ill. I thought it was a bad case of the flu...coming on...coming on, until culminating on Saturday.

"Violently" ill is a perfect description. Shaking hard, uncontrollable, couldn't stray 10 feet from the bathroom for more than 30 min...couldn't keep anything down, felt I was in major threat to become dehydrated...so, began forcing "water" down just to keep hydrated.

Turns out, we get a notice on my door one week later: "Boil your water....failure to do so will result in severe intestinal illness".

I go to ksl.com, find a story on there that "Saratoga Springs Water Supply Contaminated" ...read through the comments, and apparently, it is c-coli. Nasty nasty stuff.

I go to the Saratoga Springs City website...and they only have a little tiny blurb. I go to the "culinary water" tab, and it says they "test the water 6 times per month".

Does that seem odd to anyone? 6 times per month? When?....at 11:59pm on the 31st? c-coli has an incubation period of a week. In the comments section of the news article...there had been people sick 3 weeks ago. Little kids put into Primary Childrens hospital, adults in the ICU....terrible stuff. So, a one week incubation period, plus 3 weeks of illness = 1 month in our water.

If you're testing it 6 times a month...HOW DOES THAT GET THROUGH???!!! They test the pool at the rec center several times a DAY! Should you test the water we DRINK more than 6 times a month?

I am so PISSED. I have NEVER been sick like that in my life. I thought I had been poisoned. Well...I guess I had.

This is unacceptable in my accounts. What can be done? Whoever is in charge of our water needs to be mowing lawns for the rec department. This could have been a LOT worse. I guess if I was a terrorist...just poison the water and you take out a whole city...well, at least my city. Other cities probably test their water a lot more. So mad. Now...my daughter is sick. Lovely.

That is beyond inexcusable. How does a city allow that to happen?

All the best to you and yours, Borg, especially your daughter.

I'll bet they test as often as the budget allows. Maybe it is time to raise taxes.
