I am actually OK with what the principal did, as long as he kicks out any students wearing the Mexican flag on any day but cinco de mayo day.

If anything, Cinco de Mayo is Mexican-American holiday that really only American's celebrate for some reason. So maybe they should be wearing both flags. The real Mexican "independence day" is in September. Education fail.

No surprise that this happened in the Bay Area.

The decision was wrong, and the district offices acknowledged that. Also, the Hispanic students were oversensitive to complain about it.

That said, I highly doubt these four boys had a burst of patriotism when choosing what to wear yesterday.

I agree, they were making some kind of statement.

My problem is school kids skip school, march, shout slogans, wave mexican flags and when a legally elected body passes a law and a legally elected governor signs it, folks go smear mud on the capital windows and other stuff.

Comments are, these folks are pissed.

However, some knot head educator sees some kids wearing Americans flags as perhaps a protest statement and he kicks them out. I applaud the board for overturning it, but this PC crap is going way overboard, IMHO.

The boy shouldn't be wearing clothes with flags on them anyways:

Whoever made that decision should be fired or at least given whatever minor slap-on-the-wrist is allowed by his union contract. We don't need that kind of crap in our schools.

I don't understand why an American flag would be offensive to any person who has chosen to live in America. Mexicans who are here, whether legally or illegally, just want to be part of our society and partake of its blessings. I have been told this. So whoever thinks a Mexican or former Mexican living here would be offended by an American flag has to be misinformed.

If I were an American Mexican high school student living in Guadalara and some Mexican students wore a mexican flag shirt on the 4th of July, I'd be, well I wouldn't care.

Well, if they are offended they have to learn English, I can see them also offended by the American flag. According to Robin, we all some day will be speaking spanish anyway. Maybe then we will also change the American flag to the Mexican flag. What do you think Robin?

I agree. I'm sure the boys were trying to make a statement. The overblown decision to suspend them gives them more exposure and may increase the rhetoric on both sides of the issue. The best thing would have been to ignore their clothing. What kind of statement would that have been?

Anyone think that a Mexican kid would be suspended for wearing a Mexican flag shirt to school on the 4th of July?

If someone did, it would result in them busting out a Los Warriors jersey the following week.
