  • Big Screen Soundtracks -

For those of you who like soundtracks from films....is there a better composer than Alan Silvestri?

That guy has strung together quite a nice resume. I like his work.

Hmm... Good motivation for me to remain active I guess.

Holy crap you're right. I got him on Wiki and the list is huge! I love lots of his stuff.

You know how President Hinckley said he doesn't worry about those who pray? The same can be said for men who are self-aware enough to know when there's a life to be lived outside of the world of video games. - Anonymous

I'm going to pull a DDD here and ask "Do you mean film scores?"

        Yes...

He's got a pretty sweet web site to have a listen:

James Horner has churned out lots of music for hits. My favorite for his Field of Dreams score. And don't forget John Williams. Another one of my fave's is Bill Conti for his work on Karate Kid. He also did Rocky. Randy Edelman composed one of the greatest scores IMO in the theme from Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. And one of course Danny Elfman. And someone you may not think of who is pretty damn talented is Clint Eastwood.

            Elfman.

He has created so many memorable scores.

His score for the Simpsons alone is more recognizable worldwide than almost anything else all the other composers have done.

If you want to get a glimpse of Boingo influence on the Simpsons score, check out Nasty Habits from Only A Lad...

I dont know what the heck the vid is about. It was the only decent one on Youtube. It is some crazy Japanese anime vid that seems to involve a girl and a magazine.

The next time one of you are in Japan, can you please let someone over there know that it is ok to do other types of animation besides this bug-eyed style that is very played out now? Is there a Ministry of Cultural Arts or an Animation Czar or something?

The only two scores I regularly listen to are Bodysong and There Will Be Blood. Everything Jonny touches turns to gold. I love him so much.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Flash and I are huge fans of film scores. I wouldn't even put Silvestri in the top five, but that's just me.

There used to be a great show distributed by public radio where they featured pieces from some of the great soundtracks of Hollywood history, then they gave you some insight into the composition of the pieces. The show was discontinued a few years ago, though.
