  • Can anyone venture a guess of how much money we've printed

So far in our attempt at printing our way out of a recession?

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner met with top government officials Friday to refine the administration's plan for overhauling the $700 billion bailout program and improve regulation of the financial system. The administration is working on proposals for how it will use the last $350 billion from the rescue program. But the measures being considered could end up costing taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars beyond the original $700 billion.
    700 Billion + 800 Billion + AIG + Cars = what's another couple hundred billion.

Is there a mystical cap on how much we should spend? Where is the threshold?

I don't know, but this quote offers some clues:
The bailout total "is not based on any particular data point," a Department of Treasury spokeswoman told Forbes Tuesday. "We just wanted to choose a really large number."
If this is the kind of logic they're using, I think we're going to be seeing a lot more monopoly money in our future.
