  • I'm becoming a Van Noy fan

Kid makes a high school mistake and sits out a year in order to play for BYU. Kyle could have gone elsewhere after Bronco made him wait but he didn't. He violates a team rule yet quickly completes the necessary pennance and is back on the practice field in two days.

Kyle obviously isn't perfect but he obviously wants to be right where he is and in spite of the occassional hiccup seems ready to do what it takes to stay there. I find this impressive. I hope he continues to improve as a player and a person and has an excellent freshman season.

I'm excited about him and have high hopes, but I must admit that I'm a bit nervous about him making four years at BYU. The two-day suspension doesn't sound like a big deal, but I find it a bit worrisome that after waiting a semester to enroll he's already gotten himself into some type of trouble.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I had that same thought. It sounds like he's been diligent in doing what Bronco wants in order to get back on the field, but I'm worried about what might happen if he keeps screwing up and getting punished. At some point I'm worried he might just decide that its not worth it anymore and go somewhere else.

I like the prospect of him starting for 4 years.

Everything I've picked up about it suggests that it was a momentary instance of disrespectful mouthing off to someone outside of the program.

Based on the description (which was given without names) I've concluded (again this is an educated guess) that he popped off to Hans Olsen.

Again I emphasize - I don't know but it fits the description of what happened and there would be a motive because KVN is very close with the Heaps who haven't totally loved Olsen's takes on young Jedi Jake.

I thinks the Heaps posse needs to lay off Hans. I listen to that show all the time and Hans really say anything disprespectful. His basic take was that Heaps had the PR machine rolling prior to getting to BYU and needed to slow it down and earn the respect of the veterans when he got school. Hans was also not willing to jump on the bandwagon of a freshman QB before he got to school and proved something. Frankly I have no problem with this opinion.

Hans along with being a media member is BYU football alumni that made it to the NFL. He's earned the right to express opinion regarding the football program and its players. If it's true Kelly Heaps and Van Noy were popping off to Hans then they should probably quit surfing the message boards.

I'm still a Van Noy fan.

Whoa whoa wait man - NO ONE said Kelly Heaps was popping off to Olsen so please kill that misinterpretation before it takes root in your mind. No way Kelly Heaps would ever pop off in a public setting to a member of the media.

And the Heaps family are fine with Hans now and were always good-natured about how they handled Hans' comments - but you've significantly understated what Hans was saying about the PR machine. He actually implied repeatedly that Heaps was a bit of a glory hound out to make a big name for himself, which is not at all the motivation behind his press conference or the PR effort.

I agree that that wasn't the motivation behind the press conference and the PR effort. That being said, there were many current and former players from BYU that were rubbed the wrong way by it. Hans probably being one of them. I actually stood next Hans for about 30 minutes of last Friday's practice and talked with him. For the record, he nothing but good things to say about Heaps and how impressed he has been from what he has seen in practice.

Speaking of the Heaps - they deserve some credit for KVN's

                  keeping it together.

He spent a significant amount of time in the Heaps home over the past year and they treated him like a family member. Their influence has been a significant factor in KVN keeping everything on track and it will be a significant factor in KVN finishing out at BYU as one of our all time great LBs.

It was put forth on CB that Kelly Heaps was over giving Hans the business. For all I know she's an angel but I also know she frequents various message boards. We know how things can go south for family on message boards. There are exceptions of course.

I'm a fan of Hans Olsen and I think what he does is actually mostly good for the program. And it was always clear that once he and Jake connected they'd make nice and like each other because they're both likable people.

But to anyone who was rubbed the wrong way by Jake's presser - I think they probably need to try a bit harder to get over it and maybe get over themselves.
I can understand how it might come across as bigtiming it a bit - but I don't think you can view it like that if you took the time to read up on the people involved.

The program was at a moment where a shot in the arm - specifically in recruiting where we'd lost our top recruiting target for a couple of years running - and getting the top ranked QB in, plus a WR commit that we stole from Texas plus a LB of Stout's caliber all in one package called for, in my view, the maximum amount of possible exposure.

My opinion is that Hans was simply stating how some of the veterans on the team might take the Heaps media blitz. I didn't misunderstand the intentions of Jake and I doubt Hans did either. In fact I agreed with what Jake did and felt it was great for recruiting. I think Hans was trying to share how veterans on the team and alumni (Hot Lunch stated this as well) might feel. Most of the time Hans' comments were followed up by advice for what Jake needs to do to earn his teamates respect. That advice was usually keep your head down and work hard.

She actually only visits one - I don't think she ever goes to Cougarboard, which is probably good.

Agreed. I thought the press conferences were pure genius and I'm sure that Bronco was tickled pink.

I know which one she's on. I would be shocked if she hasn't visited others including CUF.
