I need a new team to cheer for in addition to BYU. BYU will always be my favorite, but I want a team to cheer for that cares about the quality of their product. BYU will always be limited by mediocre coaches, "good guy" players, and the honor code. I have always liked USC, but I haven't been able to find the passion for them that I feel for BYU and the Pittsburgh Steelers. For those of you that cheer for teams in addition to BYU (or Utah) - What team and why do you like them?

sports bigamy should be punishable by death...
Look byu is your team. You can't change that. I had to suffer as a kid because Utah always stunk, always lost to byu. They had inferior coaches, players and facilities. Then Mac came and while he could win games against byu he would often blow other games because he didnt know how to run the clock or he would rely on a walk on kicker or QB.
Next we were touched by the midas of the coaching world for two seasons and his heir has the team rolling.
My point... you never know if the Midas will touch your program. Hell, can you imagine if SDSU got a coach who knew what the hell he was doing? They would dominate the MWC worse than USC in the pac-10"Be a philosopher. A man can compromise to gain a point. I've tried to get into Penn State sports. I want them to do well. I root for players I've had in class. A game at Beaver Stadium has to be among the country's best football experiences. But I just can't love it like I love watching the Utes.
But I'm glad we can root for the Steelers together."More crazy people to Provo go than to any other town in the state."

I grew up in SoCal, so all my ties-ins are SoCal.
Dodgers (not Angels)
Lakers (not Clippers)
SC (not UCLA)
Raiders (not Rams)
Not a huge follower of the NHL, but Kings over Ducks.
My teams are my parents teams...with the exception of the Rams. My mom and older brother love the Rams. My dad and I love the Raiders. My dad has since passed away, but on his deathbed, he was rumored to have said, "The Raiders are going all the way, y'all!"
My brother and I attend SC games together and tailgate on campus. My mom watches the SC game every week. My brother and I surprised her this past November with tickets to the Notre Dame game. She was so excited that she was able to go to an SC game with her sons.
I grew up with memories of sitting out in the LFP at the Ravine. Listening to Ross Porter and Vin broadcast games on the radio. The 76 gas station in the parking lot. And the ads for "FAAAAAARMER JOHN!"
We would attend Raiders games every now and then, but at least once or twice a season. My family was not LDS, so the Sunday thing wasn't even an issue. Sunday mornings heading over to LA, stopping off for some menudo or posole, then hang out at the Coliseum and take pics of the players as they walked from their cars to the tunnel. Met Marcus Allen and took a pic. Also met Plunkett, Wilson, Christensen, Long, and Jay Schroeder. I had a "Schroeder's Air Raiders" t shirt that I lost one year at summer camp. I was very bothered by that.
I didnt join the Church until late high school, so I didn't start caring about BYU sports until my freshman year when I actually went there. That was a cool year....we had Ty Detmer, we pounded Utah and I was hooked. I love BYU sports, but I too feel the frustration of knowing that we will never be perennially great like we like to think that we are.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

In fact in many ways the only thing that keeps me with BYU are nostalgia and message boards.
Maybe you have a team you loved as a kid and a team you loved in college. I could see someone being pretty crazy about both teams.
Most profs I work with love their undergraduate alma mater the most."More crazy people to Provo go than to any other town in the state."

Because it's my alma mater.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

BlueHair, I feel the same way about the NHL and the Blues. I grew up liking the Blues, and I am still a passionate fan, but I "adopted" the Canadiens about this time last year because of their jerseys and tradition.
As for college sports, I started following UF when I was 14 after a group of Gator students came to our church for a week and did some missionary work. I also cheer for Utah St whenever possible."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay
