  • Urban Goes Mike Gundy on a reporter

Not as intense as Gundy but good stuff.

The reporter he went off on is Jeremy Fowler. Colin Cowheard brings him on a ton when he does spanning the globe and he always does a good job when he is on. I have also read some of his stuff as well and it is pretty good.

The reporter probably deserved it if the comment was indeed taken out of context, but Urban causes a lot of crap to be hurled at UF because of his lack of integrity.

It had to do with a quote from one of the gator players that Fowler put in his blog. Here it is.

New quarterback John Brantley is what Thompson calls a “pure passer,” which makes him happy. The two have connected on thousands of passes the last three years in practice, Thompson said.

“You never know with Tim,” Thompson said. “You can bolt, you think he’s running but he’ll come up and pass it to you. You just have to be ready at all times. With Brantley, everything’s with rhythm, time. You know what I mean, a real quarterback.”

Thompson’s comment was either intentional or he meant to say Brantley’s a more conventional style of quarterback.

I think he twisted the comment a bit, but I think Meyer's reaction was over the top. "If it were my kid, we'd be going at it right now." What the hell? Really?

Fowler reported what was said. What a bastard.

And what was said wasn't even bad. Urban comes off a fool with this one.

                no doubt!

I guess his heart problems are resolved.

why do I get the feeling that once Florida loses twice and is out of the hunt for the championship, Urb's health issues will kick in again?

                        Meyer apologizes to Fowler,

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida coach Urban Meyer apologized Saturday to the reporter he berated earlier this week for publishing a quote by one of his players.

Meyer spent more than 20 minutes with the Orlando Sentinel's Jeremy Fowler following spring practice.

Fowler declined to divulge details of the discussion, but called it a "constructive" conversation and said he accepted Meyer's apology.
Meyer did not speak with reporters.

Meyer lashed out at Fowler on Wednesday, calling him a "bad guy" and threatening to ban the newspaper for publishing a quote in which receiver Deonte Thompson called John Brantley a "real quarterback."

Thompson meant to say that Brantley was a more conventional or prototypical passer than Tim Tebow.

Thompson's quote quickly spread across the country thanks to Twitter and the Internet, and the receiver was crushed when friends and teammates asked him why he ripped Tebow. Thompson expressed his frustration to Meyer, who unleashed on Fowler during an exchange caught on camera and witnessed by colleagues and fans.

"If that was my son, we'd be going at it right now," Meyer said.
Meyer requested a meeting with Fowler on Saturday and they spoke in private on the practice field. Fowler said Meyer's primary concern was defending his player.

"If he feels like one of his players gets wounded emotionally or physically or in any way, he wants to support that," Fowler said.
