  • BYU vs Utah recruiting rankings:

I have broken down all of BYU and Utahs commits by the 3 major recruiting services. ESPN, Rivals and Scout. You can click on the link below and check out the table that shows how they stack up against one another.

    - First number on ESPN rankings is position rank, second number is their grade per ESPN.

-Rivals and Scout numbers after Stars are their position rankings. (Also a 1 star from Scout, generally means unevaluated)

    http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dd9kfd8g_46243f7cv

A few things really stood out:

    1. The prime recruits in each class for both teams are Richard Wilson, Kyle Van Noy, Craig Bills for BYU. Latu Heimuli, LT Filiaga, Chris Washington for Utah.

    2. ESPN is not high at all on Craig Bills, he is a 4 star on both Rivals and Scout and the number 10 and 15 safety. Yet on ESPN he is the 147th ranked Safety. But they love Terry Alletto who they have as the number 4 Center and with the highest grade (80) of any player in either class.

    3. On the Utah side, ESPN loves Kapua Sai ranking him as the 13th best guard and highest grade overall of any Utah commit. Scout and Rivals dont think very highly of him and both have him ranked as a 2 star.

    4. Highest rated player for BYU by ESPN is Terry Alletto, by Rivals is Kyle Van Noy, and by Scout is Craig Bills.

    5. Highest rated player for Utah by ESPN is Kapua Sai, by Rivals and Scout is Latu Heimuli.

    6. Biggest discrepancies Adam Timo position ranking of 144 by ESPN and 25 by Scout. For Utah Vyncent Jones has a position ranking of 22 by Scout and 135 by ESPN.

    7. Scout has BYU with a higher rated recruiting class, Rivals has Utah both are within 10 spots of each other. I couldnt find ESPN rankings but with the way they have the players ranked I think they would have BYU because they dont put any weight in to JC players.

    8. Players still out there that both teams have a shot at:
BYU: Xavier Sua'filo (top 5 position ranking on all 3 sites, Tyler Pritchard (running back from Mississippi), Manti Te'o (albeit about 1 in a million)
Utah: Xavier Sua'filo (probably the favorites right now), Keenan Graham (50/50 for Utah, 4 star D-end), Mike Laloni (D-end from snow college most likely the option if Graham doesnt commit)

Nice run down. Very interesting, if guys like you are willing to do this for free why would I ever pay for TBS?

Do you know if Utah has a shot at the kid below? I noticed he was dropped by the All-American Bowl, so maybe he can't qualify.

        Nice work, junkie.

The three scouting services you provide is just proof that ratings are only opinions and not to be taken too seriously.

ESPN and Scout not including JC's in the analysis is a major flaw. Utah's two biggest recruits may be Aonio and Cain, especially considering the personnel losses from last year's team. I'm not sure Utah would ahve won the last two games without David Reed.

Antoine Smithson will be a good pickup for the U as a JC WR.

              6'3 210 and runs a 4.4 40.

By the way RB I know you are a TBS subscriber will you please tell those guys that Lesean Wilcox does not run a 4.44. I have seen the kid and he rarely got the corner in highschool as a running back. A legit 4.44 kid gets the corner everytime in Utah county. Not in Dallas but in Utah county.

We had a faint shot at him for a time, but it's increasingly apparent he'll just go the JUCO route.

If he is going the JUCO route then Utah will definitely be recruiting him in 2 years.

What stands out to me the most is the beating that our recruiting is taking as a result of the Sugar Bowl. Or else, the priesthood ban.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I will say this about Utah's class, it appears to me that they are bringing in a ton of athletes with speed in this year.

JUCO will turn his muscles and brains to jelly. He'll be worthless after they're done with him.

Sounds like JUCO doesn't have to do this to his brain. It looks like it already is and that is why he is going the JUCO route.
