This really sucks. I loved Updike.

So he dies with Terrorist as his last book? Not his best.

How many author's last book is their best, other than Harper Lee and Ralph Ellison?

Updike was one of the great contemporary American writers. I always wished he'd write something more hopeful or elevating, but he he did a superb job of describing the mundane in interesting ways. Harry Angstrom has to be one of the dullest characters in literature, and yet his life was made fascinating by a gifted author.

Updike's short stories and essays on golf are must reads for any golfer.
