  • Has anyone seen The Wrestler?

I have heard so many good things about it. I have a feeling it will be the Oscar darling...Best Pic, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actress.

What the heck happened to Mickey Rourke's face? Does anyone remember that brief period in the 80s when he dominated? He was a heartthrob and women dug this guy. Now he looks like he had skin grafts or plastic surgery. He looks terrible.

My wife was just commenting tonight how she wanted to see that movie and also how Mickey Rourke use to be kinda hot but something went terribly wrong. I'm up for seeing "The Wrestler" because Marisa Tomei does something for me and I'm afraid if she ever offered I would have to put my morals aside and sleep with her.

I thought he was in a very bad car accident? I can't remember but I think his face hit the windshield.

Nevermind, I was thinking of the distinguished Jan Michael Vincent.

I saw this film. It is a nice portrait flick that shines a light into the world of small-time pro wrestling. I assume its accurate in the way it portrays life behind the scenes where the wrestlers plan out their show, but not until just a few minutes before show time.

As for Rourke, I think he has probably just aged badly, perhaps with the added stress of drugs and alcohol. I remember when I first moved to Los Angeles, living on the West Side, I would hear of Rourke sightings from time to time. These usually started with the name of a 2nd rate restaurant in which M.R. had been seen gorging himself, looking strung out, and they would end with comments on how hideous he had become, and how it was another example of Hollywood devouring its children.

I don't know... when I look at these photos I don't think it is a big stretch from then to now. There was probably a little plastic surgery, but most of it just looks like a skin issue. Some skin doesn't age gracefully.

Rourke's face got jacked from his stint as a pro boxer.

I saw it tonight, and it was absolutely breathtaking. Just phenomenal. Mickey Rourke gave one of the most subtle, quiet, lonely performances I've ever seen.

I would agree with this. Rourke is great.

My biggest criticism of the film is that the title character is ashamed of the name 'Robin.'

Yeah, yeah, Mickey Rourke was fabulous, yada, yada. What about Marisa Tomei's boobs? She plays a stripper, right?

Marisa is holding up really well. I'm glad she never took up boxing.

                          Also at Wrestlemania 25....

                          Mickey Rourke vs. Chris Jericho.

I saw this movie last night. For someone who grew up in the prime time of professional wrestling, it was a bit of a sobering reminder of where many of those guys are today. The one that it most closely resembles is Jake The Snake Roberts.

It was a fantastic performance by Rourke, but very tough to watch...at least I thought so.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I saw it last night with the arthouse crowd at the Broadway. Very good flick. It's tough to believe that Mickey put himself through it for free. Marissa played a very convincing stripper and looked stunning in a skanky stripper kind of way.

I recommend the show but it is gritty so watch out.
