  • Something I've been wondering about the new American Idol judge

Her last name is DioGuardi........this sounds a lot like the Spanish saying, "Dios guarde" which means "God forbid." I wonder if her last name means that, and if American Idol were a novel, what might her name add to the hermeneutic inquiry we make into the text?

    It's Italian for "watch God".

no way 'guardi' is watch....unless it's like a 'watchman'

watch god, as in the imperative? I betcha it's closer to god forbid/prevent/guard against something.

        Guardi is the imparative.

Unless I didn't learn correctly in the time spent as a missionary.

I liked her from the moment she told the girl who tried out in a bikini that they didn't need to know her name but could just call her Top & Bottom.

I'll bet God is the agent in the phrase - "God watches over us," or "God-protects."

Now, Dan Le Batard's name. That's funny.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.
