  • Recruiting Rankings Do Matter...

according to Rivals. Pretty interesting article. They show that the higher the player is rated, the greater chance he has to be named an All-American.

    Odds of a 5 star player being named an All-American are 1 in 15. Odds of a 4 star player are 1 in 54, 1 in 147 for a 3 star, and 1 in 358 for a 2 star or less.

Yeah but this one guy was a five star recruit and didn't do anything, and this other guy was a two star recruit and rushed for 1,000 yards.

How much of that has to do with the hype they receive coming out of highschool that carries with them all through college? Lets be honest a 5 star recruit that goes to a major BCS school has a much better chance of being recognized for a good season than a 2 star recruit that goes to a mid-major. Even if the play from the mid-major puts up better numbers.

I wonder what the odds were for Pitta? A walk-on to consensus All American.
