In all honesty, I was always confused by that phrase.

Isn't the written word measured by volumes? I didn't think the spoken word was measured by volumes.

What would be the more appropriate way to phrase that cliche?

It's SU's trademark phrase. Like Ray Charles is to "You got the right one, baby," SU is to "Speaks Volumes."

I will be happy to join the crusade. We should also ban adding "baby" to "Vegas". It drives me nuts that everytime someone says they are going to Las Vegas, the have to say, "Vegas baby!".
