  • Utes really struggling with recruiting.......

This is what I mean when I talk about decommits trickling down and having a domino effect. Utah is obviously struggling to fill their class. So they just offered Ofa Latu, a 180 pound linebacker from Timpview who commits immediately. Latu had zero D-1 offers before Utahs.

I am not sure this is the trickle down effect SU had in mind.

Hey if he can put 50 pounds of muscle on over the off season, like a QB did.

      Fixed that for you.

Well I am happy for Ofa. He's a good kid.

The offer is rescinded if Latu is caught driving within a 10 miles radius of any other school. This includes Timpview HS.

I am so sick of the Utes getting blown out in the February National Championship. Fire Whittingham!!!!!!!

Recruiting is a crapshoot. Unless you're Florida, USC, or Texas and can stock your cupboard 3 or 4-deep, then you just hope to get lucky. That freshman QB at Wyoming was a helluva good gamble. There are just as many or more busts.

I work with 18-22 year-olds almost every day. They go through huge physical, emotional, and mental changes during this time. Who knows which of these kids will be players in 2014 (2016 for the cougars)?

These posts always come from Utah fans they are lame. I am just pointing out the negative effect decommits have on a program it happens with both Utah and BYU. You are left scrambling to fill holes with kids that would normally be walk-ons.

Come on, cougjunkie - nobody's going to mistake you for an unbiased observer who's just pointing out something.

You make a good point, though - there is a huge ripple effect.

Oh well - I guess these coaches will have to coach 'em up.

Whit probably felt he could take a chance on a kid since this would be his only two star signee. Per Rivals Utah and BYU each now have 16 three stars, and Utah has 2 and BYU 3 four stars (with BYU's recent Kona decommit, a huge blow). Utah has had integrity about quality over quantity this year, as evidenced by 19 Utah commits compared with 28 for BYU. On the other hand, see Junkie's list of non-LDS BYU recruits in that other thread if you want to see a bunch of guys only offered by BYU and teams you hardly ever hearrd of. Still, even with this huge disparity in numbers committed, Utah is ranked 42 and BYU 37, and Utah has a lot of getting to do before signing day next week. Meanwhile, two of Utah's best recruits are a pro-style qb and offensive guard recruited by a bunch of big schools who are decomits from other schools.

This lame assed response has gotten old. If it's all you can come up with don't bother.

It's a much less lame-assed response than "99% of the world agrees with me."

Cannibalism is illegal. Don't do it no matter how the loss of so many 2 and 3 star athletes to schools other than Utah may affect you.

There is no way based on my TBS and CB reading Utah is ranked 42 and BYU 37. Someone correct that to what it actually is.
