Yeah, but that was a "neutral" game. Those are different. This one is IN Austin.

It could still be a multiple game deal. That article was just a release from Texas naming future home dates. I'm holding out hope for at least a 2-1 deal until we hear from Tom Holmoe.

In past statements, Bronco has always been careful to say there was an exception for a "handful of teams" when he has said he won't do 1 and done.

I think Texas qualifies as one of those teams.

How about this:

Texas invited us to play them in a game of football. We accepted.

One of the best road trips of the past couple of decades for BYU fans, players get really excited about the chance to play top notch competition, game is broadcast on national TV, nice thing to tell recruits, and byu has a legitimate shot to bolster its ranking by beating the Longhorns with second year QB phenom Jake Heaps.

Your alternative is also palatable: boo, this sucks, lets not do it.

Sacrificial lamb? And this gloomy prognosis coming nearly two years before the game? Only one team is currently in midst of a nice winning streak. Only one team is undefeated with respect to the other. But you're right. This could get ugly. It's going to be Oklahoma all over again.

And don't forget Tony Randall who at the age of 75 married a 25 year-old and sired two more kids after that.

And speaking of Randall, I'm reminded of an interview long ago with Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show when he misspoke somehow and Carson commented on the "slip of the tongue." Randall thought about that for a moment and said something like, "You know, it's funny how we slip up occasionally. The other day I meant to ask my mother to 'Please pass the butter,' and instead it came out 'Thanks for ruining my wife you bitch.'"

Ask for a direct quote and my guess is you'll see none, but jackrabbit Cougar fans do the same thing. I think it's called projecting. Jealousy is a stinky cologne. First it's a myriad of decommits and to add to 2-BCS-victories worth of insult to injury, their rival schedules a big boy game and it's back to "my dad can beat up your dad".

Well, damn. Texas is probably going to be a national title contender that year. The new QB, who showed some promise in the second half of the national title game, will be Junior.

From BYU's angle, Heaps will still be a sophomore and the o-line is likely going to be in rebuilding mode (I can't remember how many sophomores were on the 2009 team). BYU will undoubtedly make a ton of money. A loss to Texas isn't horrible while beating Texas puts BYU legitimately in the national title picture (and BYU will be playing Utah and TCU in Provo that year).

Just a little reality check for 3D and others here. It's not a big feat to schedule a 1 and done on the road. Utah, BYU, etc. have always been able to schedule those no problem. I've personally seen the Utes play in Austin (it is a great experience; I loved it; though in the Ute dark years the game was close). My brother started on the defensive line for Utah State and played at Nebraska during the golden Tom Osborne years.

Moreover, scheduling a one and done in Austin isn't the Boise State model, is it. I think BYU's top priority should be to get a BCS bowl game. How embarrassing that it's never had one.

I'm just saying there are two sides to the issue. It isn't necessarily cause to be dancing in the streets. Odds are BYU will get killed. But maybe it can take out Texas' starting qb early in the game.

I am not sure anyone here is celebrating the act of scheduling the game.

I think people are excited about a really fun roadie to a great football location. As opposed to a roadie to Iowa State. Or Louisville.

Is that why you went MikeWaters on Tone Loc? Ineresting that UTEP and BYU are the two schools that agreed to do it the same day. There's a reason you don't see Utah, TCU and Boise going one and done with Texas, Florida or USC.

Tone Loc was being a wet blanket, raining on our road trip parade. The collective exuberance of CUF was at the thought of joining up to raise a glass together, break bread with message board compadres, paint the town blue, maybe piss on a cop car or two, and then tease JeffLebowski about BYU's 2-0 record against Texas. That is the excitement....getting together with friends and going to a really fun football game.

Interesting that you reference mikewaters, as his response was almost identical to that of Tone Loc. That alone tells you all you need to know. If mikewaters hates it, then it probably is going to be fun (see BLUE RIVER SHOOTouT).

ps Don't you have some Iowa State roadie planning to do?

Ask for a direct quote and my guess is you'll see none, but jackrabbit Cougar fans do the same thing. I think it's called projecting. Jealousy is a stinky cologne. First it's a myriad of decommits and to add to 2-BCS-victories worth of insult to injury, their rival schedules a big boy game and it's back to "my dad can beat up your dad".

IIRC Clemson and Virginia were one and done for TCU as well.

I think that doing one and done against the right opponent is ok to do. You can't pack your schedule with them(ie Weber St. etc). But to give some depth and challenge. As a fan, I would much rather play one and done against Texas, ND, etc than play home and home with SJSU or Tulane.

Ladies and gents, if we're all going to meet up for this, I suggest we do it right. Those interested get tix together, those brave enough wear the vagina shirts, etc. TheBYUGuy and I probably live the closest, but I'll defer my knowledge of Austin to TBG and JeffL, as I've only been to Austin once. Still, with a few of us down here and/or knowledgable, we can probably find a great place for a pre/post game lunch/dinner, etc. We can also see if the Texas fans are as cool as the Sooner fans were (my guess: no, TBG and JL notwithstanding).

We'll need to compile lists of the designated drinkers and drivers so we have a plan to get everyone away from 6th Street safely. Also, I think JL mentioned Salt Lick earlier. Even though it's out of the way, it would be a great place for lunch/dinner, depending on game time.

Well at least you know the joy of gathering with board friends at a great football venue. New Orleans must have been a lot of fun.

BTW, thinking about your mockery of BYU's currently scheduled one-and-done with the 'Horns (to which you're warmly invited--unlike the Utes, BYU has actually won a game in Austin), I vaguely recall that Utah had a one-and-done scheduled at Texas for the '08 season but the Utes cancelled the game because Urban Meyer thought the game would be too hard. Imagine if they'd stuck with their original commitment and won the game. Then the Utes would have been playing for a national championship, not second place. But those who are faint of heart never know, in the end, the triumph of highest achievement, and, at the worst, if they fail, at least fail while daring greatly, so that their place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat, and are willing to settle for second place.

BTW, Texas and Notre Dame have visited SLC multiple times, each time on their way to Provo.

This is great news. Like all good Texans who attended BYU, I will be wearing the burnt orange and white but hoping that the margin of victory isn't too large.

I have dry skin and I learned as a child that picking my nose led to far too many bloody noses. Ths board, my bad habit/guilty pleasure, is the equivalent of nose pickery for some. Can't seem to resist.
