The equivalent for byu basketball are the banners
Hanging from the rafters of BYU's Marriott Center are several banners
that illustrate the proud history of BYU's men's basketball team, Sweet
    16 in 1951, 1957, 1965, 1971 and Elite 8 in 1950, 1951 and 1981. Let's
look at this rich history in a little more detail.

The first is the Elite 8 banner of 1950. Interesting to note thati n
1950 there were only 8 teams that played in the tournament, so by virtue
of showing up BYU earned this banner. BYU lost in the first round to
the Baylor Bears by a score of 56-55.

In 1951 BYU claims a Sweet 16 and an Elite 8 appearance. Considering
only 16 teams were in the tournament in 1951 that Sweet 16 banner is
another banner without a win. However to reach the Elite 8 BYU did
defeat San Jose State 68-61, but lost in the Elite 8 to KSU 64-54.

In 1957 BYU trumpets a Sweet 16 banner. In 1957 there were only 23
teams in the tournament and BYU had a bye in the first round leading to
their 'Sweet 16' game, where they were trounced by the Cal Bears 86-59.
Another banner without a single victory. You can see the tradition
really taking shape now can't you?

The next 'accomplishment' for BYU was a Sweet 16 appearance in 1965. You
guessed it, it was just an appearance. There were 23 teams in the
tournament that year. The Cougars got a bye and then were crushed by
UCLA 100-76. Another loss, that's alright, throw up a Sweet 16 banner!

BYU touts a Sweet 16 for 1971. In that year there were 25 teams in the
tournament. BYU actually had to play a first round game that year, in
which they defeated the Utah State Aggies, 91-82, before being stomped
by UCLA 91-73. Another year, another banner.

There you have it, 6 NCAA banner listings for 2 NCAA Tournament wins.
And 12 Banner listings from 1950-1971 counting the 'NCAA appearances'
banner. During that period their tournament record was 2 wins 6 losses.

Let's fast forward to 2008, the Cougars make another NCAA tournament
appearance and another first round exit.

    Some interesting facts:
    · BYU holds the record for most NCAA tournament appearances without
    appearing in the Final 4.
    · Since BYU won it's last NCAA tournament game (1992-1993) the Utes
have won 16 NCAA tournament games

Ummm..... Ok, sounds like each and every one of those banners are legit, right?

Now no one is saying that the Yoots #4 ranking isn't legit, it's just the fact that they are having a freaking parade to applaud 4th place, a freaking parade.

Now don't go all ape shit over the fact that the yoots were voted #2 in one of the polls, we all know that there is no true #1 any more than we know the yoots are #2, #4 or #6, it's all subjective.

But back to your topic, looks to me like each and every one of those BYU CBB banners are legit hanging in the MC, you might question the quality of the field they were playing but you can't question the fact they are legit, based upon the evidence you presented.
Let's get on with the gettin' on....

The banners are just a reflection on what BYU basketball has done.

Quite honestly, if you look at BYU basketball and utah basketball, they are very similar minus the fat man years. Giac did go to elite 8? his first year, but he had jackson and bogut, then quickly slipped. You still get credit for the elite 8 but utah basketball was on a high that will likely not be seen again with the fat man.

While utah football had an outstanding season, I would not want a parade if it was BYU football that did what utah did. Unless you finish #1, I don't think you have a parade.

No actually he showed himself how ridiculous the yoots are for having a freaking parade to celebrate first, second, third or fourth loser, depending on where you really think the yoots placed.

Congrats on the big parade though, they earned it.

How did the Utes lose? Last I checked they were undefeated.

I'll bet the Wankster displays a lot of "participation" trophies from little league too. Totally legit trophies.

I think the parade is cool.

The Sooners, led by the Heisman trophy winner, and who lost only to a top five team and the national title winners, returned to Norman to be greeted by a crowd of eleven -- 11 -- fans.

That's weak sauce. I like Oklahoma, although I've never been (but I've been to heaven).

Ute fans, don't mind Triple Dad. Sometimes he likes to give folks a hard time to test their mettle. If you know him like I do, you'd see that he's not so terrible.
