  • Recruiting per Scout.com

Just looked at Scout.com's top 300. The Cougars recruiting class has no rivals (no pun intended) among non AQ schools. Here's to hoping it translates on the field. http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73...pid=88&yr=2010

    Interesting.

Why is Boise State so low (84)?

Maybe it's the blue field? In some respects, the low ranking is a testament to Chris Petersen's coaching ability.

Those rankings are utterly worthless, especially right now. This has been discussed. Babs, junkie, BO, HL, everyone agrees. For one thing, they're to a large extent based on numbers of commitments, and BYU has twice as many as many teams. BYU has not only maxed out, it has committed a half dozen more than is even legal because the excess are mission bound. A team like Boise is so low right now because there's a pecking order of prospects, e.g., a prospect wants to go to Nebraska, who has its eye on a higher rated one at the same position who is waiting to hear from Florida. As the highest rated prospects commit the uncommitted ones have to take the best available school. Sometimes good ones drop down to Boise's level, so it's being patient. The same thing is happening to Utah.

BYU is unusual in that its commits have known for a long time that they want to go to BYU because they are LDS or just dweebs.

EDIT: Ultimately, everyone has rughly the same number of signees, so the final rankings hold some water. But in my opinion once you get outside the top 15 you're pretty much guessing. Who had the better class? No. 32 or no. 44? WHO KNOWS???!!

Also, as Junkie admitted the other day, Scout is a BYU shill.

Of course the rankings are speculative. But it is the off season and what else are we going to talk about? Notwithstanding the speculative nature of the ratings, I am excited to see how these prospects turn out. I think the line prospects ratings generally come closer to reality than the skill positions. The Cougars have some pretty good line prospects in this class. Potential is a wonderful thing.

Here's the take away. Beyond a relatively few special prospects the great center of the bell curve is virtually fungible. But coaches/programs aren't! Anyone who rejects Boise for Fresno or Idaho is stupid.

Thanks for researching and posting that. The BYU 2006 class is now, after missions and redshirts, starting to see the field. The future is bright for the men in blue.

Revenge of the dweebs? 4 ten win seasons aren't too bad for any program. I'm sure BYU fans would trade all those for 2 BCS bowl games though.

Will Zac Stout be here in the spring? I forget if he was one of the ones that graduated early.
