  • Did any of you expect this?

By show of hands, which of you fans of the Mighty Cougars expected your boys to be this good this year? Anyone?

They are just beating the hell out of people. I would like to say that I did not see this coming.

I remember the glory years. You know, the years of Nate Cooper. I remember thinking in those years that this Cooper guy was everything good about BYU basketball. Slow, clumsy, overly-aggressive, missed half his layups in warmups. That was the guy. He also had a Conan O'Brian hairdo.

Back in thos days, I never would have imagined BYU just beating the hell out of everybody they play at any point in the future, particularly with key guys like the chiseled Lee Mcbeal, a reformed chucker like that Ian Johnson wannabe Tavernari, and a white guy from the east coast named Jimmer.

    Props to Dave Rose.

BYU is so good, we're getting a taste of magnanimous Wrubell. Nothing gets my motor running like magnanimous Wrubell.

If you loved Nate Cooper, then Jeff Campbell must have really gotten you hot and heavy.

It is a bit of a strange time for BYU hoops. There are more pasty white mormon boys that are actually athletic than I can ever remember. I have seen decent BYU hoops teams, but never one where the center was the worst scorer on the team.

        Brown chicken brown cow.

Really, after seeing Jackson Emery's rapid aging during his term of duty, I was thinking that this is a man in the Jeff Campbell mold.

Unfortunately, his play has not backed up that assertion. Maybe we need to get him a couple of foam knee braces.

Once we shed Plaisted, I thought we could be pretty good. Maybe not this good, but better. The big surprises for me have been Morgan and Emery. Rose as well.
          Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Biggest surprise has been Charles Abuou. Although as my tagline indicates, his man boobs might be an indicator........hopefully it will keep the ladies at bay!

Other than that, I thought Jimmer would be good, but not this good. The biggest difference surprise has to have been the upgrades at the 1 and 2. Not exactly two positions that BYU has historically done well. We are far more proficient at missionary and........

When Rose was hired, I thought that this was a nice Steve Cleveland type of hire. Nonsexy and decent. Rose would keep BYU in the top 4 of the conference with occasional appearances in the NCAA.

He has more than surpassed what I expected of him. He still is nonsexy but he has proven to be a very good coach. Yes, he still needs to win a game in the tourney but it is hard to argue with how he keeps winning even with losing players and a guy that can win with the looks of some of those players on the team (Jimmer, Cummard, Rose, etc.) deserve extra Kudos.

I happen to think Jimmer is a good looking fella. I would also beware of mocking Cummard's level of physical appeal, the young lady whose world he rocks might just beat your ass for no good reason.

BYU needs to beat a good team. It has had a couple of impressive moral victories.

I bought into the HB hype on Abuou, and I must admit my SU prejidices. But I have been surpised by his outside shooting.

Given that Rose rarely saw the floor last year, I thought he was some kind of stiff. But he really contributes when coming in. Last night I think he was channeling The Intangible (Wrubell needs to start a Jake Shoff Sixth Man Award for each game).

Morgan's gotten bad press since he was given a scholarship so I expected nothing but turnovers and crazy play. Certainly no offense.

Jimmer's performance against aTm last year was his coming out party.
