  • The Legal & PR case against Mike Leach

The Legal & PR case against Mike Leach is very simple. It has two prongs.

First, a kid reports a symptom, the physician diagnoses a concussion, and as a result the kid is subject to humiliation and obloquy. I don't care if Leach put him in the Ritz Carlton. It's like separate but equal. If this kind of thing were countenanced, there would be a chilling effect on kids reporting and treating concussions. Yes, there was torture. It was psychological.

Second, this is an instance, recurring in DI college sports, of the bully, rogue coach. The coach who lets success on the field go to his head and comes to believe he's bigger than the thousands or tens of thousands of students, the hundreds of millions or billions that a university raises and spends on education and research. Who holds up the university for astronomical raaises, then won't play by the rules, tries to humiliate and puff himself up against adminstrators and educators, and abuses his players.

(I use "success" advisedly. Since Leach became a martyr his supporters have turned his record into a work of genius. Except last year, the record was not spectacular. Actually, neither was last year.)
When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

What would be wrong with reserving judgement until one has all the facts.

I am presently neutral on this thing, although I am hoping for Leach to be the one telling the truth because I rally around "jackmormons".

I thought the punishment was because he wouldn't return to see the doctor after the first visit. The NCAA has issued some very strict tests that need to be performed and a player needs to pass before he can return to practice after a concussion. I thought I read or heard it was because he wouldn't return to the doctor in order to perform these tests to get back on the field. I highly doubt that James was being punished for getting injured.

I have no problem with going after the bully coach. It reminds me of the stories about when Urban Meyer would make injured players don chains and haul rocks up and down hills. Or when a basketball coach would make fun of a deaf player. This type of garbage has no place in D1 sports and I'm sure glad I've never supported a program that employs this type of individual.

Don't forget the coach that made his players look at gay porn to demonstrate how he wanted them to fight through screens!
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Torture my butt! Grow some hair SU. One room was a media room with an electrical closet in it.........but wasn't forced to go inside. The other was a shed that was dark and close to the practice facility. James wanted it dark, he got it dark.

What kind of pansies are you raising. Those that think they should all get participation trophies for their scholastics? It's clear you haven't done anything competitively!
