  • Bronco and Max

Two peas in a pod. Bronco delivers the best 4 year stretch in BYU history. Max is the winningest QB in BYU history. Yet to so many fans there is a "but" appended to all of that. I don't agree with that but I think it exists for two reasons:

    1. In the BCS era, a BCS bowl game (and win) is the pinnacle that they did not reach. Which I don't think is fair because had the BCS existed in the "glory years", I don't think Young, McMahon, etc. would have been there either.

    2. The other side of this is people don't "like" them off the field. To this I say who gives a flying <redacted>. Just win baby.

That said, off the field (and even on the field), Max seems like the anti-Bronco. Bronco seems to constantly be campaigning for General Authority, while Max extends his middle finger to the mission experience, is fiery, passionate, willing to mix it up, aggressive, risk taking, and voiced his hate for all things ute for all the world to see.

Yes but they both rub people the wrong way is what I was getting at (for different reasons for sure).

I know what you were getting at, and I agree.

It's just interesting that while they have those similarities and are two peas in a pod in those respects, as you mentioned - in other ways, they couldn't be more different.

I think both of them have made some statements I thought were dumb. Who cares, I don't even care that I think that.

I really like Max. I think he is a competitor. I think Bronco is too.

If Utah didn't go to the BCS in 2008, Max would be considered one of the greatest of all time at BYU. Fans who dislike him are projecting their bitterness onto Max.

As disappointed/frustrated as I was at times with his performances, the fact is BYU just wasn't good enough for a BCS game.

But that's changing baby! The future looks bright!
