Maybe Bronco's got it figured out with his "Football #5" schtick.
If you're a 5-star recruit, let's optimistically say that your chances of making a living in the NFL are 10%. If I'm a parent of said recruit (Manti Teo's dad?), I actually like the fact that the prospective coach realizes this and cares about the rest of my son's college experience. I think there's little doubt that college football as a whole cares little about the athlete and a lot about using them up and spitting them out. So, in the end, Bronco the wizard is going to fill BYU with 5-star recruits who only NEED to practice 90 minutes a day.
Personally, I think Bronco's just saying the right things for his superiors (and probably the wrong thing for his boosters). Does anyone honestly believe that a man who runs up to the Y every year with his team doesn't have a competitive streak in him?
