  • With Utah hiring Pease and naming him assistant Head coach, makes you wonder.......

if Whit didnt think Kalani was ready for the DC job, or if he thinks Pease can help ease the transition.

Whatever the reason, I think it's a great hire.

Can I ask why this is a great hire?

The guy has been out of coaching for 3 years and all his recruiting ties are probably gone. I honestly know nothing about the guy but both those things bring up red flags to me. Yes he has spent a number of years in the pros which says he knows the game but I think the U takes a hit on recruiting with this one. One thing that Anderson was amazing at was recruiting. He was by far the best recruiter on that staff.

Yeah I am curious as well why its a great hire, because he coached in the NFL? It is interesting that they would bring someone out of retirement to coach. Especially since they have a young and energetic staff.

I like it just because of the experience factor - I think it's 19 years in the NFL and 20 years in college before that. Plus the fact that he's older and isn't going to go anywhere. I'm guessing he'll do this for a couple of years then go back to retirement. It goes with junkie's thought about him helping Sitake make the transition to DC. Pease isn't going to panic in any situation and will help Sitake make the correct adjustments. I don't think he was hired for recruiting.

I'm not sure what kind of a recruiter Sitake is, but Morgan Scalley is turning out to be terrific.

Seems like young guys, Scalley, Doman, Sarkisian are better recruiters than the older guys.

Let me add that I think it is a good hire because his experience will hopefully outweigh Sitakes lack of experience. But if the game has passed him by then you have 2 coaches that will struggle.

I agree with you there. KW could be taking a risk with this hire, but he's proven to me that he knows what he's doing.

                  young recruiters

To be fair the younger guys are probably more hungry. They know that if they are going to climb and build a career they need to make a name and the best way to do that is to recruit good kids that can play. Once you hit a certain age, and have been coaching for so long, do you find it as exciting to get that stud? Do you have the desire to go out there and get that stud to come, because you have been coaching and everyone knows what kind of coach you are.

I have no idea who this guy is or how he'll help Utah. But if BYU were to have a position coach open and give it to a guy with 20 years NFL experience, I couldn't imagine it being a bad thing.

It's a good hire because Whit did it.

Andy Ludwig was a great hire. You can't see that yet?

I never had a problem with Ludwig. He had to learn the spread the first year and had to depend on his players to execute.

I'd much rather that he was returning.

Guys, this is KW's defense and has been for the last 15 years. I don't care whose name is one what door, Kyle oversees the defense. I don't have even a small concern that we experience a drop off here.
