Do you think they can land one of the sexy choices like Urban or Stoops? If I were an ND fan I would not be thrilled with Brian Kelly, ND shouldn't have to reach to get a coach.

A guy I would think they should try and go after is Dave Wannstedt. Tough minded football, built on defense and running the ball. But again if I were an ND fan the thought of Dave Wannstedt would make my eyes roll. As a non-ND fan I think he would be very good there.

It's pretty telling that even a Catholic like Stoops is turning down the holy mother's university.

He doesn't need the pressure. 6-6 at Oklahoma and you are safe, that crap doesn't fly at ND.

I like the Harbaugh move if they can land him. Uncle Lou's son in the mix is kind of a joke though.

I think they have no shot at Meyer and not much of a shot at Stoops.

I liked Desmond's suggestion of Mike Riley this morning. They need to get a college coach who has a track record of winning with average talent.

If I were a ND fan, and also a Chicago Bears fan, I would not be excited about Wanny at all. I think Kelly is far from a sure thing, but he is likely as good as they are going to be able to get.

It may have more to do with the fact that he broke ground on a 5 million dollar house this year, and there's no one else in Norman to sell it to. Well, Toby Keith, maybe, but he's already got a how-do-you-like-me-now house.

Seriously I love Mike Riley. I am not sure there is a more underrated coach in all of college football, but I don't think he'd be a good fit at ND at all. He doesn't get average talent at OSU. He gets talent that can't qualify anywhere else. That's why I think Harbaugh would be the best get for them. He's someone that is used to recruiting the type of players ND accepts.

It's hard to respect a coach who turns down an offer from his church's university. There is little doubt that karma will come back to haunt the coach who does that.

So I guess he is making on his way to being a Sooner lifer. Good, college football needs more of that. I hope Pete stays at SC for the next 10 years and Mack at Texas etc.

Clark, I had forgotten about the Wanny flame out with the Bears. I'd be happy to see Mike Riley leave Corvallis, contrary to my above stated theory.

I don't think they would ever hire Dennis Erickson, but I think somebody similar to him would be the right choice at Notre Dame.

Kelly would be a poor choice. He's heavy on the O, light on the D. That was Weiss' schtick and we all know how well that went.

I like the Harbaugh suggestion for all of the reasons mentioned and I think his ties to the NFL would be an added benefit in recruiting.

yeah, he doesn't send his kids to catholic school, either. He's really asking for it.
