FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU and coach Gary Patterson have agreed to terms on a long-term contract extension, according to two sources close to the situation. An official announcement is expected Wednesday morning.

The sources both said part of the agreement includes pay increases for his assistant coaches.

Patterson, in his 12th season at TCU and ninth as head coach, has an 85-27 record in his tenure. That includes TCU's 12-0 record this season, the school's first undefeated campaign since 1938.

Nice to see the MWC retaining coaches. I am of the opinion that this conference is headed to a BCS auto bid.

The downside of having three dominant teams that don't lose to anyone but each other is that the bottom of the conference ends up dragging down the collective ranking of the conference which, I heard, is also considered when deciding whether the MWC should get an automatic berth.

Air Force is the only legitimate mid-range team, though Wyoming could be there in a year or two. New Mexico has fallen off a cliff and Colorado State isn't far behind them. SDSU did showed some signs of life this year. If UNLV hires Franchione, they could get better in the next couple years.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

This is good news, except for the buyout clause, which is undoubtedly part of the deal, and which will likely be exercised at the end of next season when TCU shreds through the MWC again.

I'm looking at a preseason depth chart, but it appears as if TCU is only losing two starters on offense- RB and LT. Their offense already destroyed everyone in the MWC this year, so it's scary to think what they'll do with 9 starters coming back on offense next year.

On defense they're losing five starters, but still 6 starters coming back on defense isn't bad. They run that 4-2-5 and are losing 3 of their defensive backs. TCU never seems to be too terrible on defense, so they should be fine.

How high will TCU be ranked preseason next year? At least top 10, but if they polish off their opponent in the BCS bowl, TCU will possibly be in the preseason top 5 next season with Texas and Florida each losing a ton of players.

If TCU beats its bowl opponent, why would it not be ranked #1 next pre-season?

Florida, Texas and Oklahoma are all starting over at QB. USC is going to be weaker next season, not stronger.

If TCU doesn't get some serious love in the preseason polls, even if they lose their bowl game, something will be terribly wrong. With who they return, they will definitely be MWC preseason #1. Their biggest missing part will be Jerry Hughes, but the DE who plays opposite Hughes, whose name isn't coming to me at the moment, has shown some really good stuff this season and will continue to get better.

Has it been discussed how remarkable it is that the MWC has had a team run the table in 6 consecutive seasons, where 3 teams have each done it twice? I can't think of a similar event in any sport. It's also remarkable that more often than not, the preseason MWC poll can't determine who the champion will be, let alone the team that makes it unscathed through the conference schedule.
