  • Whittingham just said on RedZone

That Asiata needed to come back next year. The host said "He was very high on NFL scout's lists, I hope this injury doesn't effect him." Whittingham responded "If he comes back next year he can show that he can stay healthy, and he will have his degree in May."

I wonder if SU will lay the hammer on Whit for saying someone should turn down NFL money to return to school when he already has his degree?

    Is Whit's family okay?

His wife was interviewed. She said that she was behind two people that were in an argument. One of the men inadvertently threw his arm backward into her face. She said to him "What are you doing? I'm a woman." To which she alleges he responded "Shut up."

In the video which appeared to be filmed right after the incident and she had no visible wounds.

Now you have been vocal in the past about coaches/fans/religious leaders that attempt to keep athletes with professional careers in college for reasons not in the best interest of the athlete. Do you hold Whittingham to a different standard?

First, I am surprised that Asiata can come back. He's a senior. Second, I doubt he's a red hot prospect. If he is, he should probably go and take the multi-million dollar signing bonus at least. I doubt there is one at this point. I think that's Whit's point.

I assume it was a BYU fan who hit her in the face and said shut up?

See, my point is that when these things happen they are news so they get out, at the time.

She did not allege an affiliation with either school. However if one wanted to it could be assumed from her angry tone that it was a BYU fan.

How many games did Asiata play this year? Is the U going to appeal for another year of eligibility (his fourth at the U)?
              Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

From the way Whittingham talks about it, the NCAA has already granted him another year.

Both Whittingham and the host on channel 4 made it sound as if there was no question as to if Asiata could return next year.

How does that work? It appears he played in three games this season. What is the rough limit before someone loses the whole year if injured?

The official word is that the NCAA doesn't decide on these things until after the Feb. signing period(weird when you think on how a decision like that could affect recruiting). But Asiata meets all of the criteria. He used his red shirt for an injury. His injury this year would have been beyond the criteria, but his injury in 2007 and the season ending injury he had at Snow were early enough in the season to count as years lost to injury.

My brother asked about Hook. Does anyone know if he would qualify for an extra year?
"The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."

"They talk about the economy this year. Hey, my hairline is in recession, my waistline is in inflation. Altogether, I'm in a depression."

"I like to bike. I could beat Lance Armstrong, only because he couldn't pass me if he was behind me."

See JIC's post. There is a certain criteria they have to meet. I am not exactly sure what it is but Whittingham has gone on record many times saying that Matt meets the criteria and it will be his decision as to what he does next season.

I apologize, I hope that I can one day again be counted as a honest recounter of events.
