  • The Ute Fans Around Me

I came out of self-imposed exile because Monday is the last day of class and I just submitted my final project and paper which was due today at 10:00 p.m. Hello, Christmas Break! Wahoo!

Anyhow, I just wanted to comment on the Ute Fans that sat around me during the game:

There were Ute fans in front and Ute fans in back and Ute fans to the side (I sit in the north side of the west stands - fairly close to the visiting team section). Every Ute Fan in my surrounding area was polite and cheered their team on without malice. They also took the good natured ribbing from the BYU fans in stride. No cuss words, no jerks. Nothing but genuine enjoyment of a great game. I've seen my share of frigtard Ute fans in the past; however, today I saw none.

Thanks to the Ute fans who sat in my section for being on their best behavior. It was a great game and a great victory for my beloved Cougars!

I am sure that one of the BYU fans behind me was a CBer, he kept screaming "Make a decision Kryle!" often when there was no decision being waited for. Then everytime we could hear the Utah fight song he would try and convince everyone around him that it sounded just like the Mickey Mouse Club song. I have only ever heard that on CB before.

Overall I really disliked all the fans around me.

A lot of U fans are great. I got a text message from one of my best friends, a Ute fan. All it said was, "damn it".

The ute fan next to me was dead silent until the 4th quarter where he called Oneill Chambers a cheater for drawing that interference call on the punt. Then I said that was "heady" and he told me it was cheating. He then gave me a forearm shiver because I started laughing. After Utah scored to tie the game he turned to me and started yelling uncontrollably. Then he thought Utah won the game with the FG in OT. He had a rough night.

I am surprised you aren't presently being bailed out of jail for beating the crap out of him.

Believe me it was really close, especially since it came at a time when BYU was struggling and I was boiling mad. After the game I was so excited I didnt even think to rub it in his face. To bad I wish I would have.

It's kind of like drawing the foul in BBall. Chambers definitely leaned in to the guy; however, the Ute player needs to know he can't get so dang close and he needs to have better awareness of where the ball is coming down. Was it 3 kick-catch penalties on the same Ute? If so, methinks the problem is with the Ute and not with Chambers.

I wish I would have been there. I would have egged you on and then stepped aside and watched.

The Ute fans around me were absolutely unbearable.

Before the game as we are taking pictures, a ute lady offers to take the picture for our whole group.

Then in the second half. The ute fan behind us give my litte girl some jelly beans.

                  I almost lost it.

All the Ute fans around me were very nice and polite. It made me feel that much worse when I had to punch them in the face and elbow their mothers.

All these really nice Ute fans in LES. Could it be the spirit you find in that stadium you don't find anywhere else. Mabe it changes people, if only temporarily.

I was praying that one of the Ute fans would throw beer on me after the game, just so I could have an awesome story to tell on CUF. Alas, it wasn't to be. I didn't hear an angry word from any of them. They just walked out shaking their heads. Sadly, I didn't see any BYU fans rubbing it in either.

This is why I don't want to ever go to a game in Laramie. I can't bear the thought of NOT getting piss-bombs thrown at me and having yet another internet-fueled legend blown up.

Thes stories crack me up because when I read them about games I was actully at, it's obvious what BS they usually are.

I went to a game in Laramie and I remember the BYU section getting flipped off by a series of Wyoming fans as they were being escorted out of the stadium (or whatever you call their set of bleachers). I don't remember what they got kicked out for. No urine bombs though. Pretty sure of that.

How dissapointing. All these stories of Ute Fans and not one mention of any liquid, let alone beer, being thrown upon the faithful.
                              Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
