But the fact remains Alabama spent more money on football in 2007-08 ($16.2 million) than Utah generated in football revenue ($12.1 million), according to data filed with the U.S. Department of Education.
Utah spent $67,690 per football player last year, compared to Alabama's $124,268 per player.
Alabama reported generating $57.4 million in football revenue, more than twice the amount of money brought in by Utah's entire athletics department ($26.9 million).
Utah reported its athletic department broke even in 2007-08. Alabama said it had a $14 million surplus.
