  • Split Title

Honestly, the only chance for a split title this year is if Oklahoma defeats Florida and Texas destroys Ohio State. Then Texas, having already defeated the presumptive champion, will have a strong argument for a share of the title.

If it were any other year, USC would be looking pretty good, but I think that with their game being played earlier in the bowl season, and with Texas having the stronger argument, that it's just not possible for the Trojans to pull off a split title this year. If Texas loses, then maybe, but I don't think a Texas loss is very likely.

Utah is completely out of luck, because, as I said earlier, to the voters a loss to Utah simply proves the media's suspicion that Alabama wasn't very good to begin with, rather than proving that Utah belongs.

Slightly off topic...what would the four major bowl matchups have been this year, pre-BCS? Help me out...Rose would have been the same. OU would be in Tempe, UF in Sugar, and VT in Orange but how would the rest of the games and opponents shake out?

The Big 12 (Big 8) always played in the Orange Bowl. I don't know if the Fiesta Bowl had a formal tie-in. It was never as big a matchup as the others, I don't think.

You are absolutely correct, Barbara. Utah is in a no-win situation.

Should Utah win tonight, there would be only one undefeated Division I college football team in the country and that team wouldn't ever be considered for even a share of the fake championship because it is not a BCS team.

To hell with the BCS and all of it's supporters.

Auburn went undefeated and was not considered. And being undefeated in the SEC is a heck of a lot more impressive in any given year than being undefeated in the MWC.

You are right about '04. There were 3 undefeated teams after the bowl games which is not the norm.

Should Utah win tonight, there will be 1 undefeated team. A completely different scenario.

If you win, which you wont, but if you do just have the SL Trib declare you National Champions.

That is exactly how Alabama claims to have 11 National Championships. A few of them were awarded by the local media.

The SL Trib sucks. I have more respect for high school newspapers.

forgetting about fairness and your bias towards Utah for a second, do you honestly think that Utah should be the #1 team in the country if it beats Alabama? better than florida, OU, SC or Texas? This is what I find hard to believe.

I never said Utah would deserve to be awarded an AP title. I just said Utah would never be considered.

Ah, ok. Well, with that I agree 100%. I also agree that it is not fair.
