  • Wyoming's Austyn Carta-Samuels

I've seen him play 3 times now, and although he runs crabbed over like a hedgehog, I have to admit I really like his pluck and I'd like to see how he develops vis-a-vis Jordan Wynn 3 years from now.

He's a product of a Jesuit school, Bellarmine in San Jose, and was supposed to go to SJ State until the QB coach there accepted the Offensive Coord position at Wyoming. The four standouts on his HS team:

2 are at Stanford, 1 at Oregon, and he is at Wyoming.

His dad James Samuels played TE at Utah State, and his dad's twin brother played there too, as QB. His mother posted pix on his MySpace, two of which are questionable. I'd take them down asap.

Clearly his parents exercised bad judgment by giving him a name with the feminine "-yn" ending, so I'm not surprised by the myspace thing.

In light of his Freshman Player of the Year award yesterday, I'm liking him even more. Plus, he was born on an auspicious day.
