    How many did you see?

    In alphabetical order:

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
    The Dark Knight
    Frost/Nixon
    Frozen River
    Gran Torino
    Iron Man
    Milk
    Wall-E
    Wendy and Lucy
    The Wrestler

I saw one - Iron Man - but not until my oldest son bought the DVD.

    I didn't like it.

    I know, no surprise.

    1. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button -- Don't care to see it. Looks boring and too weird for my tastes anyway. A 3 hour movie about some dude aging backwards holds zero appeal for me.

    2. The Dark Knight -- Probably the best movie I've seen in many years. Great from beginning to end. It's being re-released in Jan...and I'm hoping this time to catch it on IMAX.

    3. Frost/Nixon -- I'm intrigued by this one, and hope to get around to seeing it.

    4. Frozen River -- Never heard of it.

    5. Gran Torino -- Eastwood being a badass.....what's not to like? I'm looking forward to seeing this one.

    6. Iron Man --- Fantastic fun movie.

    7. Milk -- Have no desire to see it. Sean Penn is a P.O.S and as a rule I generally try avoiding anything he's in.

    8. Wall-E -- Eh..was fine...the blunt force trauma over the head "We're destroying the planet" message was too heavy handed for me, but well told and fun to look at it.

    9. Wendy and Lucy -- Never heard of it.

    10. The Wrestler -- I'd like to see. From the previews Mickey Rourke actually looks like he's a give a performance that's almost too painful to watch,,,but in a good way. Plus I'm wrestling dork and will be watching to see if they get the nuances of the it down.

Saw The Dark Knight and Iron Man. I did not have a good year in film, but I also felt like film didn't have a very good year.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

        I've seen 5:

Dark Knight: Great for a comic book movie, but way over-hyped due to its philosophy 101 attempts at profundity. Ledger's performance rivals and perhaps exceeds the one he gave in BBM, though the two roles are obviously difficult to compare.

Frost/Nixon: Really interesting; a sort of drama rarely seen in movies.

Ironman: It's about as good as Dark Knight, but I'm inclined to like it more due to the lack of rabid fanboys. Also, Robert Downey, Jr. is a far superior actor and is infinitely more charismatic than Christian Bale. He's quickly becoming one of my favorites. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Tropic Thunder are probably his highlights for me. I hope he wins supporting actor.

Milk: Good, but not great. It kept my interest and has an important message, but I wasn't as enamored with Penn's performance as many are.

Wall-E: I really enjoyed it and hope it wins for best animated movie against its scant competition, but don't think it should be nominated for best picture.

I haven't seen the rest, but plan to soon. I'm really surprised Slumdog Millionaire isn't on that list, as I enjoyed it more than all five of the ones I've seen. It's a very intense, serious movie that still manages to embrace bollywood corniness at the end without seeming cliche.

Edit: I would probably also put In Bruges and Revolutionary Road above all those five as well.

Saw TCCOBB. Ok, but not great. Too long, not enough female nudity in it.

Iron Man. Cool movie, saw it once, don't care if I ever see it again. One of the nicest things about this movie was that it was a total surprise, came out of nowhere to do as well as it did. Agree with woot in that RD Jr has had a nice career resurrection. There was a preview of a movie with RDJr and Jamie Foxx....allegedly a true story of some homeless schizophrenic that was also a Juliard prodigy at one time. Looks like it could be interesting.

Dark Knight. Cool movie, saw it once, don't care if I ever see it again. This movie wins the hands-down award for the most overhyped movie since Star Wars Episode 1. Yawn. I laugh now at those movie lists from earlier in the year that had Dark Knight rated higher than all-time movies like The Godfather 1 and 2. What a joke.

Wall-E. Another nice Pixar flick. I never understood the CB-neocon paranoia about the "environmentalist" message in it. My kids have seen Wall-E about 4 times and none of them care about the environment or feel guilty about being wasteful with food or water. I am not any more inclined or disinclined to modify my stance on the environment as a result of watching Wall-E. Not only that, but I do not know of a single person that has altered his or her stance on the environment as a result of watching Wall-E. What I saw in the theater was a kiddie movie. Lighten up, everyone.

Frost/Nixon looks interesting, haven't seen it. Same with The Wrestler.

Saw the trailer for this last night at TCCOBB. Looks good. TCCOBB was enjoyable. We had free passes to the movie, but I probably would have spent $20 on it to watch with Gidget. A bit long. First time I have ever really thought of Cate Blanchett as beautiful. I wished I hadn't seen your review first as the whole time I was comparing it with Forrest Gump. I think I probably would have enjoyed it more if I wasn't consciously playing that script out in my head while watching.

That looks really interesting. He's also going to play Sherlock Holmes next year, which I'm excited to see. I was actually a bit disappointed that Hugh Laurie didn't get the role as I think he would have been great, but obviously I trust RDj will do well.
