  • O-line not ashamed...

    http://www.sltrib.com/sports/ci_13654833

Of course they're aren't ashamed, they mirror their coach. They take pride in their pride and offer no real explanation as to why they don't perform well against tougher opponents. Someone call me when we have a new coach.

They must have very health self concepts if they are not ashamed after Saturday's game. If I had to choose one position that was primarily responsible for that loss it would be the line. False starts killing drives. Giving up sack after sack on four man rushes. Going one on one against a man right in front of you, no stunting, and the man runs past you without getting hand on him (and we're talking 6'0 300 lb men not Chris Paul). Awful.

For you knowledeable football folks, what does a lineman mean when he says they "played outside of themselves". How does a lineman do something outside of what they do. Is that the new phrase for, we didn't execute.

I am seriously asking. Personally I don't fault college players, so it doesn't bother me a bit if they say they weren't ashamed. They are a reflection of their coaches.

If you carry a good GPA, do community service and attend firesides, you don't need to be ashamed of anything you do that isn't a big priority.

For BYU, it means they almost touched Jerry Hughes when he rushed past them.

I liked it better when Bronco Mendenhall made Ute fans pussies.

I thought it was ridiculous when Utenation would string pull about Mendenhall recruiting mormon missionaries (which I believe is now a fist throwing reason to proclaim BYU is never going to be able to compete with TCU and Utah again), but to have pussies like blueintheface say "wake me when we get a new coach" after Mendenhall's performance is the ultimate is being an ungrateful pussie.

I agree. It is ridiculous that fans string pull at every turn. I understand fans wanting more, but winning has spoiled the fanbases of each side. Too many people complaining about 6-1 or 5-2 for my taste. I remember the dark days too well.

Agree that attitude is wrong and pussy-like, but do we need to be grateful for Mendenhall in your opinion? Ungrateful's a strange word to use.

Perhaps "respectful" is a better word to use. I think we should respect his accomplishments. They did not happen by chance or by accident. I don't think he is entirely incapable of fixing some of the current issues and I don't believe that his performance to date indicates that BYU will never be able to compete with TCU again. I think that blueintheface's post is disrespectful and demonstrates a clear cut ignorance of the realities and challenges of establishing a program that routinely wins 10 games a year. I choose the word "pussie" mostly because it is very demeaning and is affiliated with a long list of negative connotations. It is the stereotypical whining BYU fan whose expectations for success are not based in a sound understanding of college football.

In essence I think BYU fans should be very grateful for Mendenhall's achievements. Grateful for Mendenhall himself, I could really care less. But if anyone thinks it can get much better than what Mendenhall delivers they are delusional. If they articulate it publicly there is a good chance they are a pussie.

Yes, I'm such a pussy because my douche nozzle of a coach "takes responsibility" for his team by not doing ANYTHING to change his approach to different opponents. This isn't the Boy Scouts and it sure as Hell isn't Seminary so why doesn't this guy shut his yap about tradition and honor and coach his players for the allotted time period and leave the ecclesiastical mumbo jumbo for their religion classes and religious leaders.

Pussy? Are you serious? I'm a pussy because I expect the talk of national Championship to mirror the effort and preparation preached about whenever a microphone is placed in front of this automotron? Get real. I'm a football fan and my team is the BYU Cougars. The spirit doesn't reside in a huddle and the salt peter this guy continues to feed his players really manifests itself on the field. Losing to TCU was a foregone conclusion but the manner in which it happened didn't have to be. Bronco is to blame. Period.

Yes I am serious, I think you are a pussy. I hereby dub thee "Marylin Chambers" and I wish you all the luck getting the cue ball out!

I also agree that Mendenhall is to blame for satuday's debacle, but you are still the cyber personification of Sister Chambers' g spot.

Did you actually listen to his post-game comments, or did you just infer what you thought he'd say?

GN, FWIW, I think you finally crossed the line on offensive phrasing, but that's just my opinion.

I think Mendenhall's job to date football wise has been very average. If you're looking around for a coach and have about $1M to spend which is about what Bronco gets (he didn't get that to begin with but I blame admin for that and I don't think it's relevant to why I should be grateful for Bronco), and you have BYU's history, facilities, recruiting base, and schedule, I'm not sure a few 10 win seasons in a row is that impressive. Really all you're saying is that we've routinely been a #20 to #30 school in the computer polls.

Mendenhall has really succeeded in winning over the mullahs and the GA's, which was critical in 2005. For that, I guess I can be grateful.
