  • Where are they now?

You ever wonder what has happened to former BYU players that leave the school for one reason or another? This is the thread for that. I did some research and here are a few I found:

Antwaun Harris- He is most famous for being part of alleged rape back in 2004. Harris freshman year at BYU he had 17 receptions for 149 yards. After being kicked out of school at BYU, he had a brief stint at Oregon (where he did not accumulate any stats) and finished his career at West Texas A&M which is famous for having Ryan Leaf as the QB coach. He had 11 receptions his junior year and did not play football his Sr. Year.

BJ Mathis- BJ was also involved in the famous rape allegations, after leaving BYU he transferred to Kilgore JC back in his home state of Texas where he lead the nation in punt return yardage. From Kilgore he transferred to Midwestern State a D-II school, where in 2007 he had 58 carries for 508 yards a 8.9 ypc average. He also averaged 15.2 yards per punt return and 24.6 per kickoff return. Averaging 117.3 yards per game which lead the team.

Billy Skinner- once again one of the kids from Texas involved in the rape allegations. After being acquitted of all charges he transferred to Sam Houston State where he played for 4 seasons he finished his career with 4 receptions for 34 yards and 4 ints graduating in 2008.

James Allen- I thought Allen was going to be an absolute stud for BYU, and his junior year he showed flashes of brilliance. He was a transfer from LA SouthWest College and a native of Inglewood its always up to no good. In 2003 he had 57 tackles, 7 tfl and 4 sacks from his DB position. He was a very hard hitter with loads of potential. Until he decided to whip it out in front of a room full of people at an off campus party. He was kicked off the team, and decided to enter the NFL draft. Allen played briefly for the Cincinatti Bengals before being released.

Shannon Benton- Benton was a transfer from Tennessee and projected to start for years to come at BYU, he was kicked out of school for the same off campus party that Allen attended. He transferred to Culver-Stockton college where he finished his career with 3 interceptions.

Anyone know what happened to some others like Isaiah Joiner? Thomas Stancil? Cade Hurlbut (heard he went to BOise?) Also who was the kid that transferred to San Jose State?

A few guys I have wondered about, but not enough to do any searching.

Maluvia (I think) Pula. One of the Scout.com guys once said something like he would have been the #1 overal player or at least RB had Scout had any tape on him and he would make BYU fans forget all about Luke Staley.

Feron Fonoimoana. He was supposed to be a super awesome WR, on CBII Harmon kept calling him the F-man, which I always found really funny.

Ibrham Rashada-There was a great article on BYUCougars.com about him being Muslim at BYU. It was up for about 12 hours before he was kicked out of school on one of the sex scandals.

I can't remember the name of the kid that transfered to SJSU, but I do remember a discussion about him on CB a few years ago where he was basically a back up DB.

Ah memories. A few funny stories about some of those guys.

Antuan Harris. Mr Fumbleitis as one of my roommates called him. I remember right after hlthe 2004 season finished up we played a few of the football player in intramural basketball. Harris was a cocky SOB and my buddy who was a decent athlete in High School guarded him and when they were manned up the whole time he guarded him he kept saying "Dont fumble don't fumble don't fumble." it pissed Harris off. There was one particular play when my buddy was out of the game where Harris jacked up a three. Right as he was shooting my buddy yelled "FUMBLE" really loud. I really threw Harris off of his game. We were within 5-10 points most of the game and I think we lost by like 15. But I just remember Harris talking trash after and we were jus laughing at him.

Shannon Benton was a cool dude who really did everything he could do play at the Y. He came to practices for a year and a half while he was enrolled at UVSC. He used to hang out with T-Wat and his roommates all the time. I remember one night they were playing volleyball on the court in our complex and they asked me and my roomate to play with them. Shannon was making fun of the girls they had with them because they would say "Freaking A" instead of the real thing. He would do it woh a valley girl accent. He was really a nice kid and I wish things would have worked out for him. On the other hand I imagine it would be tough to be a black guy in Provo and try to live the Honor Code. Lucky (and unlucky) bastards.

A funny Thomas Stancil story. When BYU played at USC in 2003 Crowton asked him to go in and run a few plays. He was too scared and told him no. Not that I blame him entirely. I don't think I'd really want to go up against that USC defense either.

Stancil left BYU and enrolled at Bakersfield College. A pretty good JC program in SoCal.

He didn't hack it there and left the team.

That was it Travonne Jackson. So I just found an article on him:

Travonne Anthony Jackson, a San Jose State University student made terrorist threats to an unidentified Hispanic female student on March 7, said Sgt. Robert Noriega of the University Police Department.

Noriega, the victim and Jackson were riding together in a campus shuttle bus that was heading to the Spartan Village Humboldt Park and Ride lot.

The victim approached Jackson, inquiring about a math class the two have together, Noriega said.

The conversation, Noriega said, transpired into a heated argument, resulting in Jackson pushing the victim out of the bus once it was stopped and then striking her on her right arm.

Jackson made verbal threats to the victim, saying that he would beat and shoot her, Noriega said.

Walt Williams actually ended up being pretty good, I believe he was a two time 1st team All-American for Appalachian State playing 1-AA ball.

In 2006 he went back to school and play at Mt. San Jacinto College, over on a hawaii board there is a post from back in January about him possibly playing for Utah after this season. But I guess he is 255 pounds now and more of a fullback.
